Arrow thinking of going bigger

this past week i have been giving a friend of mine some advice on cams. all this talk about which cam would be better has got me thinking about getting a new one. it can't be a big cam because the car is my dd. i'm thinking somewhere bewteen the 224-228 range on a 114. the cams i'm considering are the:

TSP 224R: 224/224, .581"/.581", 114 LSA
FM-F4: 226"/226" .575"/.575" 114 LSA
FM-F5: 224"/228" .588"/.576" 114 LSA

i'm currently running the GT2-3 and making 371/349 with it. of the cams listed which would you suggest? also, would i need to change springs again? i'm using manley springs from SDPC right now.

If you get a TR 224 cam on a 114 I bet you can get the idle like stock, you can probably go alot bigger though maybe an FM F14 and still come out with a streetable machine.

Search for a (sound clip) of a FM11 or FM13 at idle and you be the judge.

I'm running a 222/218 114 and while it isn't a radical change, the idle definitely sounds different.

Ive had the GT2-3 and the TR224. Both are really nice cams, but there is a world of difference between them. The TR224 idles nothing like the GT2-3, but mine behaved just fine in my untuned auto. You wont have to change springs because I have used the SDPC kit with both.

After I'm done with my LS1 I'm thinking about doing some work on the 5.3 in my wife's Suburban. Same goal of more performance, but in a streetable, driveable by grandma, but better running machine.

I'm thinking a TR224 cam, Shorty headers and I might replace the 5.3 heads with my LS1 heads (milled .030")

...I don't know, it's fun to think about at this stage.

Well it wasnt a really fair comparison because with the GT2-3 I had stock manifolds, the LS1 intake, and no torque converter. However fastmatt98 bought my cam and put it in his M6 and then put down 370hp with a dead stock idle. That cam is a SUPER sleeper.... I ran a best of 13.10 on stock tires this way. If youre looking for easy 12s and an idle smoother than stock, thats the cam for you.

With the TR224, I added JetHot LTs, LS6 intake and a 3500 stall. My best is 12.22 @ 111 untuned and full weight on 275 Nittos. It dynoed 316 on a Mustang Dyno. I had some idling issues but I fiddled with the TB a little and after that it was great. There was no fooling anyone that the car was stock...

I miss the GT2-3 now that I have headers...it was a nice cam.

How about going w/ a bigger ***** instead of bigger camshaft. That will make you feel more power!!!

Just kidding. sorry, i just couldn't resist!!
