I may be in for it as well. How accurate are these 1/4 times and dyno numbers? Can you check air/fuel? Also, since I've deleted AIR and EGR my SES light is on. Can I delete these codes and thusly turn off my SES light?

The timeslip values are very reliable. If your speedo is correct, you're on a level road, and you experience minimal wheelspin, then the timeslip will match up quite nicely with your actual race track timeslips.

Once the race track re-opens, I intend to use ProScan on every run at the track and compare the ProScan timeslips with the actual timeslips. I'll post the results on the web site.

However, it is very difficult to determine horsepower and torque from real-world acceleration data. The only reliable method is to use a chassis dynamometer on a rotating drum of a known inertia.

However, acceleration based dynos such as G-Tech and OBD-II readers like ProScan are still very useful. The numbers should not be taken to heart, but instead the generated curves can be used on a relative basis. Perform a few pulls, throw out the funky results and average the rest. Do some work to your vehicle, then go repeat the process. The changes in the curves will show you which RPM bands you should tune for.

I too have removed my AIR and EGR systems, but I used LS1 Edit to delete the codes. ProScan is not a programming tool, but rather a tuning aid. Therefore, you won't be able to permanently delete the EGR and AIR codes. You can turn off the check engine light, but it won't be long before it comes back. It may be enough to sneak you thru an inspection though!

I hope I've answered your questions.

Thanks!

I see that you sell just the software as well.
I currently have the other software that is similiar to this one.
Can i still use your software with the other kit. i.e. "Auto Tap"?

ProScan software is not compatible with any other hardware interfaces such as AutoTap, HPTuner, etc. You will need to have the ProScan hardware (cables and electrical interface) in order to use ProScan.

However, the OBD-II cable included with a ProScan kit (and sold separately on my web site) is the same cable used by AutoTap, and other OBD-II devices. So if you lose your OBD-II cable, you can get an inexpensive replacement from me.

Thanks.

This group purchase is for a GM kit that will work with all GM vehicles. (Chevy, Pontiac, etc)

However, I have an interface that will allow you to scan Ford vehicles, and another interface that will scan Chrysler and Import vehicles. If you want the added interfaces, I can provide one for an extra $80 or both extra interfaces (scan all vehicles 96+) for $150 extra.

How about a hookup on the serial adapter too? I want the software but I would need the adapter since most new laptops don't have serial ports. Is it harder to port the cable to use a USB cable?

Sorry about that. My wife must have posted that reply to you yesterday evening. I was out installing a T-56 in my car at that time... She must have forgot to use our "ProScan" username instead of mine.

Anyways, if the GP goes through and you get ProScan for $99 shipped, I'd consider that one heck of a hook up. I can't really come down on the USB to Serial Converters. Go to your local computer store and I doubt you'll find one for $19.

I'm extremely flexible on my prices, but I can't afford to give stuff away.

Thanks.

Is your cable compatible with the EASE ODB-II interface cable? If so, can I use your software with that cable? Also how are these features calculuated/determined?

Hi,
The ProScan software will not work with any other manufacturer's interface.

The 1/4 mile information is determined by continuously polling the vehicle's speed sensor and then distance travelled is derived. The refresh rate is around 10Hz (every 0.1 seconds) so ProScan interpolates to obtain even more accuracy. The timeslips are very reliable.

The dyno uses well-known formulas for determing hp and tq from acceleration, vehicle mass, and rpm. The vehicle's weight is a constant and is provided by the user. RPM is continuously polled, and ProScan calculates vehicle speed directly from RPM using gear ratios. This allows ProScan to collect twice as many data points as other OBD-II dyno analysis tools which send requests for both RPM and speed.

Thanks.
