Default Would i make a BIG mistake if....???

I know a guy that can build 10 bolts up.. and he has a 10 second and 9 second car that are running the 7.5" rears that are built up and are not having any problems with them.. he said he could set me up with...

Eaton posi
3.73 gears
Moser Axles
Aluminum girdle
Install kit and labor

for $1000-1300... I really don't have $2500 for a 12 bolt so i am really considering this..

If i would be making a huge mistake by doing this let me know.. He seems to know what he is talking about and has experience.. Has anyone tried the same thing? Thanks guys!

Who is this guy? I have a shop make me up some custom solid spacers for the 10 bolt out of 4340, but I really can not believe a 10 bolt into the 9's is possible.

Search the forum, you will see all sorts of destruction. Broken ring gears (nothing he can do about that), snapped axles (I have a hard time believing Mosers are that much stronger, I once talked to them on the phone and they said 400hp was going to be the limit for 28 spline), blown posi's, including Eaton's.

Unless your car is an auto, your rearend is doomed if you're going to put enough power through it to run 10's, at least imo. I don't have personal experience, but I have done a thorough search of other's post here and there is a lot of 10 bolt death and destruction.

10s on a 10 bolt reliably

Nitrous is probably the 10 bolts worst enemy. It hits it hard all at one time

Will it help if he had a progressive controller. I know he won't run the same time as hitting the car right of the line but I might prolong the the death of his 10bolt

Save your $$ and time and save up for a 9" or 12 bolt. Yes, 28 spline moser axles with a M6 will break on sticky tires. Don't ask how I know LOL.

As the other guys have said the weak link is the ring gear which can't be fixed. The parts the guy listed
373's =175
Posi=300
axles=300
TA girdle=150
bearing kit, gaskets and seals =100

Thats stuff comes to $1025 on its own. Thats way to much to dump into a 10bolt. When for $900ish you can get a Moser 9inch housing, and 31 spline axles. Then you just buy a used posi Ford centersection from a pickup with gears that will work and slap it in. They run about $150-250. So for about the same price you have in that 10bolt that will just break, you can have a nice 9 inch.

You still haven't answered my question, Who and or what shop claims they can get a 10 bolt into the 9's?
P.S. Pm me and I'll quote you for a 12 bolt, maybe you and I can make a deal.

The suggestion on buying a 9" is a good one, particularly if you don't need the ABS. You can build it cheap with used dropouts from Ford products.

BTW, there is a 12 bolt advertised in the for sale section.

This is the Same Route I am taking! I am buying the Moser Housing and axles from a very good guy that is also pressing my bearings for me since I dont have a press and my buddy is selling me a used center section for cheap so in all it will cost me about 1300 from my 9" and I am working on getting the ABS to work I will let you know how that goes also.

You can keep your ABS with 3 channel cars too.
