Default Drag Radial in the rain...

Was looking at the 555R's or the MT ET Street radials for the summer. The only thing I am debating is using them in the rain. Is this something I should be worried about. I can not see it being that bad, it's not like I drive in ponds or puddles. If the roads are wet I usually drive like a grandmother anyway.
Thanks
TJ

Neither is ideal for the rain, but of the two the Nitto's would be better.

I've never had a problem with my Nittos in the rain. There are horror stories out there but if you take it easy and don't ask for trouble you should be fine. If you routinley have to drive on the highway you might want to consider another tire, seems most of the mishaps have been from hydroplaning at higher speeds. As for the M/T, I'm going to be running those this year and my car will not see wet pavement with those. Running M/Ts in the rain is asking for to much trouble IMO.

Yea, I do make the occasional drive on the highway but if I am running DR's, I have a lil more brains to take it to a normal speed. Thanks guys, any more guys run DR's in the rain.

Thanks again.

I have run nitto 555R's all year, I have even tested thier wet traction limitations and I was suprised at them, the only time the were un predictable was going around a turn...just a little bit of gas would kick the rear end around easy...

As long as you are careful in the rain you should be okay.

The mt's will be a no no in the rain, but just take it easy and use caution in the rain then the nittos will be fine!

I can only comment on the nittos, but personally I was shocked by their wet weather performance. They have been better than any "regular" street tire I have owned. Including the supposedly all weather BFG KDWS I have. And we get some pretty good Monsoon conditions here. The Nitto's grip in the wet with a 4 inch wide bald patch in the middle. Of course, I drive like an 80 year old grandma in the rain.

I noticed that too when going from the stock RSAs. It takes some effort to break them loose in the rain.

I have Nittos on my daily driver Mustang. I drive in the rain. To me the car feels a little lighter and a little spooky when it's raining really hard but when it's just raining lightly it's fine. Of course 5.0 Mustangs don't feel as stable as F-bodies in the rain in the first place, so that has a lot to do with it. Different car totally.

Compared to the Yokahama ES100 street tires I have on the car now, the Nittos aren't as good in the rain. Use common sense and you'll be fine however, but it doesn't take any effort to break them loose, I found it happened more times than not. Good luck!!!!

So Nittos are better in the rain... is that the final answer? It is pretty scary on the highway with the M/T dr's.

You couldn't pay me to drive M/T's in the rain. On the other hand I keep my Nittos on both my cars until the first snow shows up here in VA. Then it's back to regular treads for the winter. I'm already wringing my hands waiting to put the Nittos back on this year !

I've driven my Nitto's in the rain and they arent bad, I wouldn't even think about using the M/T's. I would save them for track use and Saturday night racing only.

If the Nitto's are a LITTLE better in the rain than the M/Ts, then i am going to stick with the M/Ts. They hook like crazy!!

How much would you drive them in the rain anyways? Are you just concerned about them doing in a pinch, like say a light drizzel or a quick summer t-storm?? Or is this you'r daily driver?

Daily driver ( all kinds of rain conditions)... looking to stay moving with the traffic on the highway (ie: 60 mph) Are Nitto's (555R) good enough?
