dammit I want one!!!!!!!!11one11!!!!!!!! That thing is crazy!

seriously, I checked the F1 site a while back and I couldn't find anything other than the basic 900+hp 3.0 liter V12 info. What kind of valvetrain do those motors use??!? Are they OHC or do they use some kind of pneumatically(sp?) controlled valves or something???!!?! I NEED to know how they rev to 20k rpm...... or I'll lose my mind! Somebody here has to know!!!

I believe they're all V10's. I'm not sure, but they probably don't give out any specs of their motors. Awesome vid!

They are 3.0L V10's, N/A. Redline is about 18K RPM, and they idle at about 7-8K RPM.

Are you sure about the 18K redline? I could have sworn I've watched races were they showed them going to 22K-23K.

Sorry, I meant to say v10....... haven't looked at that stuff in about two years.

I've seen them go over 19k on some races, so I just rounded up, since it's so close(and still so insane).

That is badass.

I think most teams try to stay around 18-19K for better reliability.

this site has some good info
www.f1technical.net
they dont have valve springs, they have little pistons attached to the valves pushed on by nitrogen gas. damn expensive engines, take a week to build one.
also the official website...

18,500 is the highest. BMW engine 2003 season. No failures either. I believe the valves were pneumatically closed

I read it was 19,050 by BMW. All the F1 motors have pneumatic valve return.
