Default Clear Coat matching

I got some new wheels, but one was damaged during shipping by the centercap piece. It rode on the lip of the wheel during shipping and ate through the clearcoat and then into the metal underneath. I know I can sand off the clearcoat and polish out the small gouge in the metal, but when I clearcoat it back, do I have to reclear coat the entire wheel or just spray over the place I removed it and try to sand it to match?

Can you not send them back to the place you bought them and get a replacement? Seems like that would be a better alternative than trying to fix it yourself.

I can, but they are the black Privats that are on back order for up to two months. If it is too difficult or if it won't look the same, I'm just going to wait I guess, but If it's not that hard, I'd rather do it than wait.
