Draglite/Drag Radial Combo
I've searched the forum and couldn't exactly find what I was looking for so I figured i'd just post up my question. I have some 15x8' Draglites with 5.5" bs for my 98 Camaro. I tried a set of BFG 275/60/15 drag radials on my car on those rims but the clearances around the wheel well were way to close as my car squats hard when it leaves. Also, the clearance from my wheel to the fender lip was uncomforably close. I was wondering if I should go with 275/50/15' MT DR's on this rim or possibly just go to a 235/60/15 MT DR setup so I can have adequate clearance. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

I would try the 235/60/15 MT DR.....Check on their site for the dimensions (inches wide, circumference, etc.) verses the 275/60/15. Subtract the difference and see if it will work for what you need. This is the first step I would take before purchasing a new tire. Good luck on finding your tires. Mike

or you should have a rim with 6.5" of back spacing. I have 10" rims with 7.5" bs...so yours are basically 2" narrower...all taken out of the inside...which makes the outside of the tire move outward approx 1". I ran 275-60's and had all kinds of room. in fact i once had 325-50's with little rubbing.

To save you a bit of aggrevation, that tire your considering is too large for that rim. You need a 10 inch rim for it per mfg, specs.
The original smaller width tire (though larger diameter) you were using is the correct tire for the rim.

That is funny....as BFG recommends putting either the 275/50R15 or the 275/60R15 on a 7.5 to 9.5 inch wheel. Which would include the 8 inch wheel that he currently has, and exclude the 10 inch rim that you recommended. Sorry to bring up an old thread, this just seems to be a common comment. Where did you get those mfg specs at? Mickey Thompson does recommend a 10" wheel for the 275/50 but recommends an 8 inch wheel for their 275/60R15.

275/60 8 inch rim, 275/50 10 inch rim directly from manufacture specs listed, not a resellers site. You can push them up and down slightly on a rim, though the 50 will look odd on an 8.
No reason to choose a weld or centerline 8 inch rim if there are ones available that fit better and offer the correct backspace. Especially since there are many other tires that you can choose from that fit and F-body well and are also meant for 10 inch rims.

thats from nitto, fyi. note that NEITHER manufacturer recommends a 10" wheel for a 275/50 or a 275/60.
mickey thompson just has a measured wheel value, not a recommended width range

back to the topic at hand, i would recommend going with the 275/50 as it will give you a better contact patch than the 235. that is of coarse as long as it will work with your gear, redline, and trap speed. if it will make you run outta gear since its 26" tall as opposed to 28" time to break out the sawzall or fenderroller
