Default Advise: My tci 3,200 stall makes a wierd noise when it goes into O/D.

Hey all:
I just had alot of work done on my 02 Z-28 including a TCI 3,200 stall 240 mile ago with a 2.2 str and when it goes into overdrive it makes a loud noise. Is something wrong or is this normal? It isn't sliping or anything.
I am a little worried so input please. Thanks Ken

You sure its making noise going into Overdrive? Might be when the Torque Converter Clutch engages. What kinda noise is it? Does the car shudder, or vibrate?

Even with the Transgo kit, the shift into overdrive with my TCI 3000 is barely noticeable in most situations ... I would guess that what you're experiencing is lock-up. I definitely feel it, but there is no "loud noise." I would PM Kevin Winstead about it.

Also it does have a trans-go kit also.

I need to drive it more to explain it more but I also dont want to make it worse if it is a problem.

It's not a weird noise not really loud but you can hear it and it is only on the last shift when it locks up and goes under 2,000 rpm. Besides the sound it does slightly shudder if thats the right word.

I think I did to much at one time. So it makes it hard to pinpoint.

If it makes the noise when it shifts into OD, then the problem is in the transmission. If it makes the noise when it the converter locks up, then the problem will be in the converter. If that's the case, then I'd like to get my hands on the converter. Just let me know if I can help.

I had a trans shop install it that I have been using for years for customer cars and my own personal cars. I am having it towed to them in the morning and they will look at it and let me know what it is.

I purchased the converter from Trevor at Texas Speed. It was special orderd for a 3,200 stall with a 2.2 str instead of the 3,000 with 2.2 str. I have just over 200 miles on it.

Is it sort of a hoot, like a pissed off bird? My TCC did
that when I tried to engage it under power, and did it
real bad when I had the B&M Trick Shift in there.

So does it still do it or what did you do to fix it?

I had a power-flush done to extract the B&M juice
(800 miles or so from home, the problem took a
while to appear on the road trip I took right after
converter swap). It had by then contaminated the
clutch faces and took a few days to get to not be
making noise on every soft apply / slip, and never
did get back to the original TCC holding capacity.
I have done two Castrol ATF changes through it
and jacked up the low-% force motor pressure by
scaling back current and it's still pretty marginal,
so I've got a new converter in a box now. That's
Plan C....

You do want to be running a fluid that says it
meets the newer anti-chatter specs. And isn't
blue.
