Default quick oil pump question.

I have a 2001 camaro that cam with the LS6 intake so does that mean GM put the ls6 oil pump in it too. Or is it just the LS1 pump?

Good to hear, do you guys think i should change it when i do my cam swap or just keep it in there. It has 40,000 on it. I did a search and got so many mixed opinions on the subject.

I would say since you already have the LS6 pump I wouldn't change it. I had a Ls1 pump so I changed mine and mine had right at 100,000 miles on it.

Default Pump

There is no such thing as an LS6 pump. The new # is 12586665 and there is only 1 pump listed for the LS1/LS6. This was as of yesterday when my new arrived.

I ordered an LS6 oil pump last week. 12586665 on the box and 12556436 stamped on the pump. Also, 04 Canada on the pump.

Has anyone taken these apart to see whats the difference between these two pumps? Did they open up the Cylinder bore a little or decrease the piston's OD? I'd like to measure both cylinder and pistons diameters from an p7-99 old style and the 01-02 new style. Are the springs the same?

you're right, and wrong. its not so much that its an "LS6" pump, so much as they first came on the ls6 motors and 2001+ f and y body ls1's. it was a design shift that they have implemented across the board, and now they should ONLY be selling/shipping the new design, so if you buy the new pump you should be ok. thats why some people who run the part #'s on their "ported ls6 oil pumps" come up w/2001+ corvette part numbers.

Are the truck motor pumps any different? My information says they are all the same until they are ported or the spring changed or shimmed? Anyone know any different?

That sounds right except I thought it was only 98 that had the old pump style.
