Default 01 A4 Z vs. 97 COBRA

how might it turnout? i have an 01 Z28 with gmmg and some 295's out back. he has a 97 cobra with u/d pulley, shorty headers catted x pipe. flowmaster with tds, 3.73s and a chip. last time we raced i was 100% stock and put 2-3 cars on him in a little less than an 8th mile. how might i do from a dig and a roll? wut speed to go from on a roll?

His exhaust and gears will help him a lot as the factory exhaust on those things have 6 cats and the DOHC 4.6 loves to rev. I'm surprised he didn't go 4.10's. I'd race him from a dig simply because you have an auto. He's going to have an advantage from a roll. If you must race him from a roll do it from a slow roll or highway speeds. The A4 LS1's have that "dead spot" around 35-50 that you want to avoid.

A 97 Cobra? lol You should absolutely destroy him from a dig and ESPECIALLY from a roll.....I think it is quite funny that people believe a 97 Cobra mods listed will have the advantage from a roll.... I raped my freinds supercharged 98 with my cam only 99 Z28 a few years ago.....Raced a 97 snake with 4.11s exhaust, drag radials with my 97 LT1 Z28, I lost that one but it was a CLOSE race.

i murdered him from a dig last time because he doesnt lauch it that well and having stock 245 size rubber didnt help matters much either. i think they only had 4 cats on those cars as he had 2 removed and has 2 left. i think we're gonna roll-on on I-20 this weekend maybe ill let u guys know.

Yeah, like stock stall automatics have the advantage from a roll against a manual tranny car. A4's aren't the greatest thing since sliced bread from a roll especially with a stock stall. And no stock A4 LS1 with a cat back is going to "absolutely destroy" a 300+ HP bolt on and geared Cobra. He might beat him, sure, but he wont absolutely destroy him unless the guy is in the Cobra is in reverse. They already raced when the Cobra was stock and the Z28 put 2-3 cars on him. Now the Cobra has 20rwhp more and more grear...you do the math. Sounds like a driver's race now. The best chance the A4 LS1 has is from a dig. The automatic tranny in the LS1 plus the no torque, peaky powerband in the Cobra means running from a stop is best for the guy in the Z28.

You'll slaughter his ***. I've beaten modded ones when my car only had an exhaust.

There you go Mightengale..... You obviously do not know too much about a '97 Cobra. A very generous number for the Cobra mods listed would be around 280rwhp, while the ls1 in question makes 330rwhp.... A 50rwhp advantage equates to an asswhipping, doesnt matter if its an auto or 6 speed....

I ran a 1997 Cobra last summer with ALL BOLT ONs and a Vortech supercharger, 4.10's, caged, suspension set up for auto X. The guy claimed low to mid 11's on street tires and over 500 RWHP. Well my Z at the time had a catback, nitto's, and a LID!! Tranny ws messed up in my car so I had to run from a roll, (1st to 2nd shift would not happen) so anyway, went from 25 MPH and I was in 2nd (OUCH). ran twice, first one he was late on the start and i pulled him and at a 100 mph he was a my door and he ran out of gear in 4th at 110 and quit, but it was already over because he went for 5th and I started walking him bad. 2nd run was better, by 100 I was at his door and he backed off at 110. So 1 and 1 w/ a supercharged 97 cobra, works for me and I was basically Stock. Can't wait to find him this year!!!!!!!!!!!
