Should i buy Nitto drags in 245/50/16? Went to 1/8 mi. Advice please.
I went to the 1/8 mile track last night just for fun. I new i would get bad times because my tires have very little tread left. First run was a 9.7 with a 2.5xx 60 ft I started playing around and got it down to a 9.3 with a 2.310 60 ft. I had to shift from first to second at 3,000rpm and then literally let off and then punch it again, i still got spin from second to third.
I dont want to break my rear end so that rules out any slick. I dont really have $ to buy new wheels. I was thinking about buying the Nitto drags in 245/50/16. This is the same size i have now. I just want to pull decent 2.0 60 ft times and be able to stay in the throttle without spining too much.
What do you guys think?

Go for it, I run nittos in that size. My best 60' is a 1.9 (best on street tires was 2.2), but I baby my car a little bit out of the hole since my rearend makes strange noises sometimes (and I cannot afford to upgrade it yet). They are definitely a nice upgrade over street tires for the track.

1.9-2.0 is exactly what im looking for at this point. Ill bet that would put me in the high 8's. After i have some consistent base times then ill start modifying for power.

I ran Nittos 245/50/16 for 3 years on a 1/8 track and IMO they are a damn good tire for street / strip. Drop them to 20 psi do a good burnout and they will hook, if not, get them hotter.
I now have a set of MT 255/50/16 because it's a weekend toy and I wanted a little bigger tire for appearance. I've heard there only good for like 5000 miles. You'll get many more miles from the Nittos.
Good luck racing.

Im still not sure about how to do the burnout though. Anyone care to walk me through it?
And what RPM are you guys launching at with these tires?

I got my Nittos on last weekend and they seem to be pretty good on the street.
Weather permitting, ill hit the track again this Thursday and see if i can hack down on my times.

i run them.
best stock sixty was 1.9
consistant 2.0 all day riding clutch a lil
to preserve rear life..........lol
and i have to burn them good 1st time up that day.
then only needs a lil on any hot lapping.
followed by another nice burn after a rest time.........
they stick pretty good on a bolton f-body.

I'm on my second set of Nitto Extreme Drag 555R's in 275/40ZR17 and they are great tires for street and strip. The mileage you get on them kind of sucks compared to a normal tire, but for tires of that type they aren't too bad.
I've even driven on wet roads a couple times with them and I've driven on FAR worse tires in the rain. So they get my vote.

Hell yea!
Well guys, i just got back from the track and i was quite impressed with the results. I shaved over a 1/2 second off my 1/8 mile. And the 60 ft wasnt even that great im sure theres more to be gained.
BTW, a vette next to me(actually behind me) spun out and crashed into the wall.
Anyhow, heres the timeslips of last weeks and this weeks runs no mods other than Nitto Drags in the rear.
