Default Could my plugs being gapped at .30 cause this??

Someone told me I should try gapping my plugs at .30 to keep from blowing the spark out when spraying my 200 shot so I did. Now if I get into the throttle at all when I let off I get one nice "pop" from my exhaust. It never did it before so Im assuming its probably the plugs. It also seems like it could be running a little more rich, I can smell more fumes etc... Im wondering if they are starting to get fouled because they are gapped too small and its starting to cause these issues. Any ideas on this?

What plugs are you using? If you are using stock heat range plugs you need to move to a smaller gap plug, for example, an NGK TR5 is I believe the same heat range as the TR55 but has a smaller gap (I'm thinking about .035, someone correct me if I'm wrong). Generally you don't want to move the gap more than .010 from gap as purchased-at least that is what NGK used to recommend. If you're running a colder plug look for the same heat range you need in a smaller gap.
Don't know if this will cure your prob, but it couldn't hurt.

A short gap can make a weaker kernel that doesn't
fully burn the charge, leaving some to burp in the
pipe.

High cylinder pressures need more voltage to fire or,
for the same max ignition system voltage you have
to run less gap as you increase the pre-firing cylinder
pressure. Question whether you really need to be as
low as 0.030 gap, misfire counts on the bottle should
tell you this if you have access to a scan/logging tool.

I've been told not to close the gap on any plugs more then .10 because the strap won't hold it's gap.

If you haven't tried a set of TR-6's.. that what I would put in your car at stock gap.

Thanks for the replys!! I do have TR6s and they are gapped at .030. I had TR6s gapped at .038 I think and was told to drop it to .030 because the 200 shot melted the electrodes off. I do think I am having some left to "burp" off though. Should I change them and gap them higher??

Gonna move this over to our N20 section. Those guys should be able to help you out... sounds like you might need a little more fuel.

Try the NGK R5724-8....I believe that's the number. I'm not at home right now. If you have a Jegs catalog or Summit look up NGK 14mm .708 reach 5/8 hex and verify the above number. These should work well.
