Question gm hot cam

Ive heard of a lot of good and bad things from this cam. I want more power but i dont want to have to worry about checking the springs all the time. I am also on a budget. What do you guys think of this cam and what kinda gains will I see?

looking at your circumstances it fits the requirements. I have it, it is ok. Probably going to go bigger eventually

It's an okay cam. You do not say if your an auto or manual? A manual can get by without tuning but I found it was much more streetable afterwards. If you have an auto you have no choice but to get a tune. If I had to do it over again I would have bought one of the TR224 cams to begin with. No issues with wearing out springs and a little more power.

it was the 1st cam that i ever had in the car...it had a great mean sounding idle but it idled like crap with my a4..i upgraded later on down the road..but for someone on a budget who wants there springs to last and a tough sounding idle with some hp increase its an ok alternative...i think my dyno with a lid, catback, and hotcam was in the 350'sh range...

98 ss a4....lots of stuff...

Is it possible to gain up to 40rwhp with this cam? It is a M6 also.

I have also heard of the tr224 and that you really dont have to check the springs. Is that true???

darkside, 300 is a descent price but it is still a little too rich for my blood right now. Maybe in a couple of weeks. Thanks. What made you go with a bigger cam.

I gained 32rwhp untuned just by putting it in! I would put some comp 918's in there because I have heard of vavle float with this cam, plus the 918's are just way stonger and when you want to put a bigger cam in you dont have to change the springs, I am just because my new cam is a little bigger than the Magic stick and needs dual springs

If I were you and I was a few weeks ago I'd keep my eye on the parts for sale forum and wait for a tr224 or similar cam, pushrods, and some 918's. I got 918's, thunder racing pushrods, and comp 222/224 cam for $360 shipped to my door. I haven't installed them yet waiting on warmer weather and for my next oil change to get closer since its a good idea to change oil soon after cam swap but should make good power and have a tough sounding idle.

The hotcam is a decent cam ,sounds good ,has good torque, never worry about springs ,but there are alout better cams for daily driving that are alout bigger and will put better numbers down,I had the tr230 cam in my old car and its driving manners were alout better than the hotcams.I got the fm13 on the way!
