It isn't so much of a weight thing as it is what the material properties are of the brand you want to use. 5-30 is lighter than 10-30, yes, but depending on brands you can see trade offs between power and wear. I would run a Torco 5-30 if it was my car (worth a couple HP @ the wheels over a Mobil 5-30). Mobil wears a little better than Torco though. Just my 2 cents.

depends on if you have a stock motor or one built, My builder set up my motor loose and likes a 20-50 mobile 1. Mobile doesn't make it any more but has a 15-50 which is what I use now.

There are a couple of recent threads that have debated this question extensively. In general, engines with lighter oils will make more power than heavier oils, but engine wear may be greater with lighter oils. Ultimately, you have to decide which is more important to you.

0W30 German Castrol. The only differance between 0 weight 5 or 10 is cSt (viscosity) during cold start. What is a 30 weight oil is different for all oil companys, for Mobil 1 5 or 10W30 is 10cSt but German Castrol is 12.2cSt, by far its thicker then M1 5W30.

Not only will lighter oil help lesson drag on the internals, less oil in pan helps also. Some drag racers fill their pans with less oil "below" the add mark on dip stick for more horsepower.

Wanna run light oil, just run mobil 1. Unless its 0W40 that stuff is thick. NHRA pro stock cars run 0 weight oil or something similar to a 0W5 oil if was SAE rated. Top fuel cars run 70 weight oil.
