A WIN for the Z

I raced a WRX STi from a 70mph start, we did 2 runs. He kept right next to my almost stock Z28 (only Borla Cat-back) through 3rd, but when I slapped it in 4th, it was a steady pull. I had him at my rear bumper at 130. The STi is a hot ride, I considered one myself before opting for my Z, glad to see it was a challenge. :chug:

I ran into own cruising around once. Went from about 40 mph or so roll and i got him pretty damn good, 3-4 car lengths by 90. Maybe the one you raced was modded?

BTW: my car is stock.

Good kill. I would get just the WRX for a daily driver but I wouldnt mod the hell out of it like I would with SS.

Good kill! I wonder if he would have beat you in the quarter then though if he kept with you from 70 :eek2:

Why not? Nothing like having a 4-banger running low 11s on street tires (how about all season radials?) to shock the crap out of people who aren't expecting it

you sure it wasn't a WRX non-STi?
living in litchfield and all...the STi would have been sweet.
where abouts in Litchfield? I'm familiar with the area, i've built a few houses in Woodridge Lake.

It takes a LOT of work and money to get a WRX into low 11s.

I raced my buddies STi when I was stock and M6......basically same results, we were door to door through 2 and 3, but as soon as I went to 4 it was :wavey:

It takes a LOT of work and money to get a WRX into low 11s.

For a regular WRX, yes. It requires a new tranny, stupid boost on race gas, or (easier) a new block with more displacement.

It is a lot easier to get there with an STi - can be done for about 8-9K (new clutch ($1000), FMIC ($1000), upgraded turbo ($1000-$2000), fuel rails/injectors/pump ($1200-$1500), exhaust and headers ($1000-$1500), and computer (UTEC - $1000). The good news on those cars is that the trannies are bullet proof, but they can break axles, need a new clutch, and you have to make absolutely sure that the car does not detonate or the hyperpathetic cast pistons are bye-bye.

They are fun cars, though, as the AWD and handling (and stupid low gearing in the STi) are a blast. I just wish that they did not come with the stupid wing, and that they had another four cylinders.

Definately an STi man, it was on RT 8 going into Waterbury. I actually live in Thomaston, but since noone has any idea where that is, I just say Litchfield County/Litchfield. Im right next to Nystroms by the General Store in Northfield.

Yea I was crazy surprised!! My friend in the passenger seat thought I'd just roast him instantly (he was a honda owner, so his 1st ride in a V8 was a bit overwhelming for him.. :jest: )

But it was like a switch, I hit 4th and I steadily pulled away. :drive:

He might have been modded, but I've test driven one before and they're damn quick!

I should mention though, as some here have already, that the gearing in the STi is stupid low, so me starting in 3rd @ 70mph gave him the advantage off the start, which is prob why when I got into 4th I just pulled away.
