Lightbulb Curious, anyone use the stock fuel tank for balast?

I'm wondering if anyone installed a smaller fuel cell in the hatch of their f-body, and uses the factory fuel tank to add/remove balast? Just plug up the tank, put a drain valve on it, and use water to fill it in order to add weight. The position over the axle should be ideal for adding weight.

Just curious

I've seen the stock tank used for all kinds of interesting things. Dividing it in half and hiding a bottle in it was my favorite.

I'm sure you could do it. Same w/ putting it in an old catback muffler.

Or you could fill it with sand that way you dont have to worry about the slosh or rust.

Per NHRA/IHRA rule book, No liquid or loose ballast( i.e., water, sandbags, rock, etc.). Myself I need to a over 200 lbs to my car, and looked in to that.

The way I read that rule is no liquids (Safety from dropping on the track) and nothing loose in the drivers compartment/trunk (Safety, they dont want a 30lb sandbag flying through the drivers compartment same as a battery hold down). I dont think sand in the gas tank would violate the letter of that rule or the intent of that rule but that is just my .02

True. I believe the rule applies to ballast INSIDE the car. Filling part of the fuel tank or a rear exhaust section wouldn't be applicable.

So ah, zip tying sandbags to your exhaust tips is okay, right?

Sure. I prefer concrete in my bumper. Helps for rear end collisions too.

holy crap!!! lol. with enough power and a light front end, i would think that's nearly enough to lift the front tires at a stop light. now that would be cool!
