Default Cam or converter?

I've got a nice cam sitting on my desk that i can put in, or i can get a converter and put it in, but can't afford both. I'd like the cam in cause it'd sound cool and add a good amount of power but with stock converter that'll probably melt down pretty quick and down low it'll suck. With a converter it'd be a nice gain but then i'd have this nice big cam sitting at my desk looking at me for another couple months? what to do

On an A4, always do the converter before a cam.

it takes off pretty hard off the line for having a stock converter. i dyno 360/360 SAE corrected, cam only w/ ls1 intake.

Deffintaly do the converter first. You should gain more, and if your going with a good size cam it will probrably suck with the stock stall.

alright well the converter will be cheaper anyways.. The question now is which one? I'm thinking Yank ss3600? Right now i'll just be running drag radials on stock rear. I know im asking for a lot but looking for a converter that will be good now and with the cam, but also be fairly decent on street and good at track. Thanks guys! the input is great

Just to reiterate install a converter first! I was tempted by the top end power gains of a cam install, but a converter makes so much more sense for a daily driven car. My only regret of installing the Yank converter is that I did it at 90K miles rather than 1K miles. Also don't install a converter smaller than 3500, get a cooler, and reprogram your PCM.

I would go with a converter first. Both make a big difference but the converter will make a big cam(if you go big) easier to drive.

What size converter depends on your goals for the car.
What size cam are you gonna run?

Another vote for the converter install first . Once it is in, you will have the biggest smile on your face and you can't wait to cut someone nutz out at your local track . I see you have already ran a 12.8 . If you install a 3200 or more converter in your car, 12.3's or better are yours.........easy ! Good luck

its a baby cam just a little over .600 lift.

The car gets driven to car shows and cruise it all the time, occasionally im sitting in heavy traffic at the beach or something so i dont want to have to worry about over heating issues w/the tranny. I try to avoid the situations but sometimes you just cant help it. No opinions on the SS3600 yank?

If you get a TCI SSF 3500 then you can do both the cam and converter for the money you saved not getting the Yank, but the ss3600 is a damn good verter. I was driving a 3200 daily but just stepped up to a 4400 and like it way better than the 3200. Daily driving is fine, but I've got 3.73's so it's a little tighter than a stock geared car.
