Default differential spacer block question

that is my friend's spacer block and that's how it came from the factory. last week, when we did my axle bearing install, i think i remember accidentally turning my spacer block completely around (the opposite way from his). it fit fine, but i don't know if it's in factory-correct. i also don't know if it matters.

anyway, i'm wondering if i should take mine back out and put it in like his, or if you can put it in either way? i have driven approximately 700 miles thus far on it and i've not had any noise or issues. what do you guys think?

a GM tech i talked to said it did not matter which way it went in, as long as i got the 8mm bolt back in to hold the spacer block. i did that all, so that's good, but i actually don't understand at all why they would make a block that wasn't symmetrical on both sides, yet it can be put in either way.

does anyone know what i'm talking about?

I always place the block so it scoops the oil into the diff.

yeah, i went and changed it to the way my friend's was, which was also completely stock. so if nothing else, it's in there like stock now, and that's going to be okay.

btw, those blocks are pretty tough? while i was doing it, i accidentally dropped it into my pan of gear oil, underneath was concrete. i inspected it, but it didn't appear unstable. i don't know how tough those things are and if that fall might have been able to weaken the structure of the block? it fell maybe a whole foot. thanks.

I think it's made of 8620 heat treated metal like the ring gear.

No, I grind the ring gear a little and then round off all of the sharpe edges.

If you have a OEM AAM gear, you can slide it by with a little tapping of the hammer on some Torsens.
