Thanks to Dave @ Yank for his helpful discussion and info.
The diagnosis was that somehow the metal casing of the converter fatigued along the ridge on the flywheel side, could've just been a bad piece of metal or machining problem. They mentioned it could have been made worse over time by the fluid pressure.
The converter has been in the car for about 4 years/25k miles with no problems (although it is out of warranty by a good bit LOL). They only charged me $205 to repair and ship it back to me. We decided the best course of action was just to re-weld/repair it. The internals are all fine, it was just rebuilt/refreshed in October.
We mulled over raising the stall up but with the plans for the blower in the works we agreed that keeping the lower stall would be better suited to the higher torque of the new setup.
Pics below (leak spot highlighted by black marker). There are no visible cracks/marks but it was definately spraying fluid under pressure :
