Question What oil to use on lifters when installing and with new 410ci motor?

I was told to use STP oil on the lifters and motor for the first 2,000 miles then goto a synthetic oil. Before I go buy a few cases I wanted to know what the best oil would be to break in the motor? Also what weight?

Thanks

Any name brand oil will work. It is suggested that on rebuilds to not run a synthetic oil since it won't let the rings seat properly. The factory ships out Vette engines with synthetic, but I suppose they control the honing process better than most private groups and so the rings do OK.

Oil viscosity needed is based on your rebuild clearances and the temperature outside. If the clearances are stock, use the stock oil grades.

STP is an excellent assy lube. When I was about 13 and about to build my first motor, a guy (I don't remember his name) who used to build Indy motors told me thats all they used. I have used it on the bearings and lifters of every motor I have built since then with excellent results. Just don't use it on the cylinder walls. For that I now use this dry powder stuff made by Total Seal that makes the rings seat almost instantly.
