HP Tuners (http://www.hptuners.com) and LG Motorsports (http://www.lgmotorsports.com) do it again!!!
I spent most of friday and saturday prepping the car.. doing little things here and there to get it ready for today.. One of the things was taking out the light 3" aluminum driveshaft and putting in a steel driveshaft...
I estimate todays raceweight at 2820lbs.
I left this morning at 6:30am and arrived at US41 about 8:20.. I arrived at the gate with TO 5 on the car since last time and they just gave me the #5 card for time only which was cool. Take the car off the trailer, warm it up.. and prepare for the day..
Started out with tire psi hot 15lbs, shocks 1 in front and 3 in rear.
This is also the first time I have ever used the line lock or t-brake.. with a little focus it wasn't that hard..
First pass, good burnout, foot brake at 2000 rpm and go..
1.472 6.667@102.76 10.517@127.46 ... not bad
1.392 6.544@103.24 10.363@128.19 .. foot brake to 3000.. cool new record.
1.313 6.521@103.00 10.348@128.28 t-brake.. I 60'd so hard and panicked.. I couldn't see where I was going and short shifted 1-2 REAL quick.. DOH!!!!
1.325 6.517@103.24 10.346@127.91 t-brake.. Better shifting
1.368 6.523@103.24 10.350@127.82 t-brake
1.409 6.532@103.24 10.379@128.19 t-brake
1.392 6.554@103.17 10.377@127.82 t-brake
1.373 6.527@103.18 10.344@128.20 .. best of the day
1.426 6.572@103.00 10.400@125.71 .. fronts at 3.. somethign went wrong
1.380 6.562@102.21 10.417@124.26 .. fronts at 1.. something went wronger..
I think on the second to last pass my torque arm bent upward.. the launch felt weird I just thoguht I didn't hook..
Then, on the last pass i got major air.. felt good but didn't feel right on the big end.. little noisy in the back.. I thought I broke a tooth off the gear.. as I was coming to a stop the car starts shaking really badly and I wasn't sure what was wrong.. it felt like a misfire shake as well. I babied it back to the pits and got under the rear and looked for a while then I noticed the rear pinion pointing upward.. :( Torque arm is in my tunnel.. Put a nice dent in the tunnel as well that you can see on the interior.. Meh, I got what I wanted so I wasn't bummed at all.. and I didn't wreck either, thank god!!!
As long as I was lined up in the groove ok, the car felt safe all the way down the track, it didn't search at all!
Going from 10.98@119 stock internals to 10.34@128 with the following changes..
4L60E -> TH350
9" YTP 4400 -> 8" ATI 5500
3" Alum DS -> Steel DS
Stock Cam -> LG Motorsports G5X4
.. this cam is making insane amounts of HP.. I picked up a solid 9mph with the cam going through a 5500 converter and a Th350, and a steel driveshaft!!! :hail: LG MOTORSPORTS!!!!
http://www.hptuners.com/pub/launch2.jpg
I should have more pics and videos later as well.
I'd also like to add today was probably one of the most fun days I've had in a long while racing. I lined up against 01-z twice and we were neck and neck the whole time!!! It was very intense!!
Thanks Louis@LG Motorsports, Tom Dan Larry Jim@Speed INC, PSJ@LS1 Tech, 01-Z@MFBA and everyone else who has helped me with my car.. Thanks guys!
Another record back home in the MFBA.. GO CHICAGO!!!!!

incredible. with another 1.31 60' time there is even more left in that combo!
what were your shift points?
Magnus
04-03-2005, 10:31 PM
I was shifting the car at 7000 rpm's.
Also, I was crossing the traps around 6800 RPM or so.. 4.10 gear, 28" tire, 5500 rpm converter, 128mph traps.
Thanks Guys!

MAC Chassis mount torque arm, It's very similar to the alston just no braces on the torque arm itself. I believe I am going to just buy a alston jobbie now.
I hope to be at cordova too!

No pics of the interior..
I have:
Stock cloth seat.
Shifter.
Dash with gauge cluster and my switch assembly in the middle, tach on the right, 3 pillar gauge pod on right, pillar cover on the pass side, head liner up top, and the cross bar on the bottom of the dash. i also have a 13" drag race steering wheel. 8pt roll bar.
I think I cut the 1.31 by letting off the brake as the RPM's were ramping up.. I engaged the brake at idle, then went WOT and I think I let go of the button as the RPM's were about to come up to the flash point. It just shocked the crap otu of the car and it hit hard..
I honestly shifted into second only a couple of hundered RPM later.. It hit around 5200 then around 5800 I was in second gear.. I freaked out.

Keith is the man!
I think I need more converter and 150 less pounds.
I redlight the 1st race against Keith (-.003) and the car took a hard right @ 600ft,
got back in it and stayed on his door.
Second race left pretty even he jumped out and I couldn't pull an inch.
We had the same 60' but he got to 330' quicker than me.I need a 5500 converter.
My car pulled 1.41-1.42 every run, ran consistant 10.50's@ +550 to +1000DA.
Weighs 2950ish probably.
Congrats again, Keith!

Congrats. Did you go with a 2.75 first gear in that TH350?
Magnus
04-04-2005, 05:11 PM
I have the stock gear set. I figured I would have issues keeping the front down so I didn't want to add to the problem.
I'm sourcing a new driveshaft now and think I will just go with a moly driveshaft. I see 1.2's with more powerful setups in the future.. Not sure how a 3.5" aluminum will do.
If I can get a new torque arm this week I may go to the track again sunday and see what I can do.
I'm sure the car has 10.2's in it with a little better air and some more low 1.3 60's..
I need to see if I can make it a little harder for Rodney. ;)
I might throw on a set of heads in a bit to see how close to the 9's it gets.. but I highly doubt it will actually go 9's heads/cam..

okay, am i the only one whod like to pull these motors apart and check this stuff out???? i mean nice records all of you in the last few months, but its starting to pust unbelievable, u dont think u could add heads and drop 3 tenths? hell alans solid roller heads car that is reving to i believe he said 7800 rpm is running just in the 9.9x range..... but ya'lls hydrolic roller bone stock heads, no porting, no polishing, nothing is only going 10.3-10.4.... i mean the sponsors cant keep up with some of you.... and they have prolly next to unlimted parts to throw on and try. im sure ill get flamed to hell and back for this, but i also wondered how a bone stock bottom ended car could turn mid 9's in the 1/4... and make it to mid 10's cam only for a decent length of time, yet other cars setup and tuned just as good would blow sky freaking high before they ran a mid 9..... jw.. i understand ur cars are very very light, and im not accusing u of cheating.. just please tear ur car apart for us and tell us waht makes it tick. i know the wieght, and tons of suspension, but how did u make 330rwhp bolton car go 10's? and how did you cam guys go sub 10.60.. enlighten us....... . b/c i bet i could buy all ur parts, and take off all the things u did, and have the same ppl assemble and tune, and i coudn't run these times tommorow, theres just got to be something else im thinking.

well to start alan had a nitrous motor so the rotating assembly wasnt light
his car was few hundred lbs heavier than ours are. i ran right after him on the same night he ran his 9.9, i was running 10.50's about 150lbs lighter than him at the time. some of us have stronger motors than others, some of us can pick the proper parts better than others and some of us can drive better than others. so far we have just got lucky with our setups. and i think i speak for all 3 of us when i say were still not done yet. and i would be more than happy to tear down the motor for anyone who wants to fork over the rebuild money if it is indeed stock which i can assure it is. :)

Pro stock john himself I can gaurantee would put his name on the to verify my cars integrity..
And my cam was installed at Speed INC.. they took off the existing valve springs and the old cam out.. I bet they too could attest to the stockness of my shitty ass LS1 heads.. 84X or whatever. I have the crappiest LS1 heads ever.
I hand picked my exact setup. It is EXACTLY how I would design a car to be a record breaking car. Every single part on my car (EXCEPT for my rear LCA's) are set on kill..
I have a shop. Bring me your car and your credit card and I will build you a car that will do exactly what my car did. I'll even drive it down the 1/4 mile with my experience and run very comparable times. When you pick it up, bring a pickup truck with a trailer. We can put the near 1000lbs of junk I removed from your car in the back of the truck.
My car is legit..
And if you think my car is so easy to build.. fyi.. I took apart every single wiring harness in the car to remove uneeded wires.... for weight reduction.
I have a sawzall and die grinder handy for weight reduction..
The reason why I say I don't think heads would put me in the 9's is just out of practicality.. come on.. the faster you are the harder it is to gain ET.. I had to work my ass off to run 10's stock internals.. and i BARELY made it.. Dude I got stuck with an 11.000 11.001 and 11.002 and I called it quits and was ready to put the car on the trailer.. I tried my ass off but could not break 10's and quit. Pro Stock John is the guy who told me to just try one more.. and sure enough.. last pass before the track closed I ran a 10.. and its on film too..
My 10.344 is on film too with lots of witnesses as well.
I post everythign I do on both my personal website and this forum. If I had time to put heads on my car, you would be able to put it in the timeline..
If you want to call me out, by all means put your money where your mouth is.. Come over here and take off my heads.. Then I will give you a set of 02 LS1 heads to put back on the car which are stock to replace my crappy ass 84x heads.. then I will go and run again and see what I can do with a less crappy set of heads.. all on your dollar.
What is a sponsor going to do to a race car that I haven't done.. One thing I noticed in the drag racing tech is a light weight steering column.. I don't have that.. not much else I can think of..
What makes our cars tick??? Well, for starters, a stock LS1 with cam, rod bolts, valve springs and pushrods.. and then the car to support it.
It also takes a driver to actually run the #. You think it doesn't matter how to drive an auto, or a TH350.. just gas and shift.. when you are this fast and you are looking for the record, the most minor of actions can cause quite a difference in ET.
If you are serious bring me your car and your wallet and I'll have your car as fast as mine.. and if you want to spend a few more dollars there is a couple things I could do to make it even faster.. some things I was not willing to shell out extra $$$ for.
Another thing.. I raced 10.9's stock internals.. with open headers and an idle of 550 rpm's.. If I had ANY time of cam people would know.. even a sleeper cam on open headers at 550 rpm idle would make some sort of noise. Everyone thought my car stalled every time I got out of the burnout because it was so silent.. Do you think I would have heads on a stock cam car?? Valve springs?? I bet my springs are still at speed.. you want to check their compression load??
And after I run a 10.9 stock internals?? what do you think would happen from adding 70 rwhp from a monster cam.. run 10.5's???
FYI.. My car, with NO engine/trans mods ran 12.4 with the LS1 swap.. All I had was an intake and 4.10 gear. stock manifolds with cats and an open y-pipe.
If this was so easy there would be more people at this ET level with this level of mods.. but its not easy and thats why the competition is so tough.. because its HARD!!!
Myself, Rodney, Sean, Z8's.. and all the other record holders work their ASSES off to achieve these records.. With the LS1 community as large as it is, nothing is achieved easily.. because so many other people are trying to reach the same goal as you are.
Many people want it, but only 1 guy can hold the #1 spot. And for the short period that you are #1, it's a pretty damn nice place to be.. but as time goes on, so will advancements in the LS1 aftermarket, and competition will increase and ET's will just keep getting faster..
10.2's cam only is very possible. I believe it will be just as hard to achieve as 10.9's stock internals.

Okay I will admit, when he messaged me and said "the cam only records 10.30's now". I was like f**k that.. I smell something funny. *bullshit* coughcough, but after reading it I'm still wondering how the hell?! lol I mean if you say you did and have video's to back it up I'm not going to be the one to call somebody a liar. So if you really ran that time cam only its amazing and keep up the good work. Although if your lying for publicity/fame whatever then thats just dumb. Again I will say Props to you though for an amazing run.

Magnus and 01-Z are not cheaters, I have been to the track with these guys a 100 times and the nay sayers just have no idea what it takes. I have started to make my car light and I am no where even close to what these guys have done. E.T is not all made from power, it depends on how heavy you are. With 100rwhp and 200rwtq less than I had and 400lbs lighter I went .4's faster. So if it's all about hp tell me how that works. And if you think cutting a 1.31 60 ft is easy your nuts.

Don't let peoples unwillingness or incompetence to build a similar combo get you down.
Your car is running AWESOME.

the most incredible part is how well the cars launch. it isnt about the power or if it has heads. hell 99% of us here couldnt run that number with head/cam/built motor setup. its about the setup of the chasis that allows it to go on kill and stay in it. incredible.
if you have a hard time believing this stuff, dont dare go to NHRA stock eliminator. definately dont talk to al corda and his ls1.

how these guys get it done..
while most people are getting sold into high dollar parts...
these guys do it like this
- effecient race car
- lightweight
- trying thing cam changes, converter swaps..etc etc
- most importantly...TUNING TUNING TUNING

It's not rocket science.....the car is light. Magnus has his shit dialed in, plain and simple. No reason for people to get pissed or call bullshit.
Would it be more believable if he went 10.94 at 3420 lbs cam only? 600 lbs = about 6 tenths in most books.

Why is everyone getting defensive, nobody called bullshit. We were just looking for more info to help us feel comfortable with the timeslip. I mean honestly I could care less if he cheated or not.. and I'm not saying he did. Mdblackz28, I have about 1000 bucks in my 86.. I'm not really interested in going 10's in it though.. But like I was saying.. If you think we are calling bullshit then you are completely misunderstanding our post. I said it once and i'll say it again PROPS to having a fast ass car. That thing is sticking like glue :)

Congrats Magnus, I know what it takes to do this. I just hate that our nearest good track is 600 miles away or else we'd try again. Guess I gotta take the wiring harness apart too, planned on it just didn't want to. :)
The fast cam-only cars are believable. Nothing really rocket science even going on, that car would probably go 10.50's with a 224 cam, the timeslips come mostly from the chassis, not all of its the cam. When you say "cam-only" its kinda misleading, but thats what the powerplant does consist of. :D

JP, can't believe you would go about it like this. How many times have I said, you gotta get the car's weight down and it will run with very little done. Did you see he was sub 3000 pounds? He built this car for a goal and I would say he is doing very well with it. Take notes and maybe you can get faster. This is not shocking, just very smart and a practical approach.
Good luck with your car, hope to let you see the tail lights of the LT1 soon, if you show up at the track....
okay, am i the only one whod like to pull these motors apart and check this stuff out???? i mean nice records all of you in the last few months, but its starting to pust unbelievable, u dont think u could add heads and drop 3 tenths? hell alans solid roller heads car that is reving to i believe he said 7800 rpm is running just in the 9.9x range..... but ya'lls hydrolic roller bone stock heads, no porting, no polishing, nothing is only going 10.3-10.4.... i mean the sponsors cant keep up with some of you.... and they have prolly next to unlimted parts to throw on and try. im sure ill get flamed to hell and back for this, but i also wondered how a bone stock bottom ended car could turn mid 9's in the 1/4... and make it to mid 10's cam only for a decent length of time, yet other cars setup and tuned just as good would blow sky freaking high before they ran a mid 9..... jw.. i understand ur cars are very very light, and im not accusing u of cheating.. just please tear ur car apart for us and tell us waht makes it tick. i know the wieght, and tons of suspension, but how did u make 330rwhp bolton car go 10's? and how did you cam guys go sub 10.60.. enlighten us....... . b/c i bet i could buy all ur parts, and take off all the things u did, and have the same ppl assemble and tune, and i coudn't run these times tommorow, theres just got to be something else im thinking.

I can believe whats been contemplated, its surely the whole car not the engine...I mean look at mine even though it is a Lt1 :) ... not only that but I personally tore down the "former" stock internal record holder on this board (Hawkin01) and it was, as it came from the factory...
On serious note though, magnus you better put some heads on it quick or we'll get the 9's first with a hyd. cam 346 ,on pump gas ..testing the other day showed ,,well ;)
Personally, I'm shooting for the record for most hated red Trans am with bogarts this year... :jest:

sorry for asking a question, love to be flamed i guess... if anything you should take questions as a compliment, if its that amazing to make ppl wonder then damn, ur doing something right! secondly, the only reason i was kinda curious is the top 4 went from 10.60-10.90 to being like 10.30-10.50's in a very short short time.. yea i know they trailer the car shon herron, and i know they are all sub 2900... magnus said he was like 2700 or something right.. just eventually you'd think you'd have to hit a wall somewhere right.
my apologies...
oh and criag the other guy never questioned a thing, i was the only one who did, so no need to put him in this with me..

thanks goodluck with ur car, and i believe ur last lt1 did that at jackson, should be a bit harder this time tho... and thats if i ever get it running again.. im tearing it down to check everything for possible damage, such as the pistons, better then putting the cam in only to dyno 300rwhp and do a leak down and then have to tear it down.. im going to go thru it first, and try and learn a thing or two while doing it ya know, so it might be a while, but it should be fun.. however evertying is bought and paid for except gear, pulley, tune and one or two other things, unless i find the shortblock to be scrap ofcourse.

Deaf or can't read? Nobody questioned the integrity. The only thing questioned was as to how he did it. Yeah we know what the motor has, but like everybody else pointed out thats not the most important part. The rest of the car's setup is where its all at, and thats what was being asked. You guys get so defensive every time you think somebody's threatening your thrones....when in reality were all just here trying to learn. Props to all you guys running 10's cam only, and especially to Magnus for the new record.
On a humurous note, you said we keep the title if we find head work...what about bottles or a not so stock bottom end :jest: ;)

Damn, I assumed you guys had arp rod bolts in there!!! You guys are lucky nothing's come apart yet!!! I mean shit, with the rpm you must be turning with those huge cams, that's crazy!!! My stock motor lasted a while, but she finally got hurt not too long after adding the spray, and it was only a 100 shot, spun a rod bearing. Thing is, I don't know if it was from the nitrous or from all the high reving from having the cam in there for about 20k - 30k miles and lots of drag strip use (she had somewhere around 70,000 miles on her when she finally let go, not positive exactly how much, cuz the odometer hasn't gone past 47,xxx since the turbo 400 went in almost 2 years ago now)!!! Also, maybe it's cuz I still drive the car on the street a lot, not a daily, but she gets driven a lot and my cruising rpm on the highway is like 3400 - 3500 rpm at around 70 - 75 mph with the turbo 400, 3.73's, and 28" tires. My shift point with my little 228 cam was 6700 on motor and 6500 on the spray, but I was planning on spraying more, just wanted to get everything dialed in on the smaller shot before upping it, so I had my rev limiter at 7500 and window switch off pill at 7000 in case I needed to run it out and watched the tach fly over 7000 rpm a lot during burnouts before shifting out of first to second and third. But it's all good, cuz now i'm building the motor, and she's gonna fly!!! I've been dreaming about when it's all done and running her down the track every night!!! I can't wait to get her back together, just waitin on parts!!!!

My motor is a 99 so I had crappy rod bolts stock.. I have ARP rod bolts now.
I don't daily drive my car but it is setup to drive on the street.. I have street wheels/tires and mufflers..
I ordered a torque arm from alston today, It should be here on thursday..
I will be looking to go racing again this sunday.. I have a few things in mind to try to duplicate the 1.31 60' and hopefully see if I can hit a lower 10.3..
Thanks for all your support!
I'll update my website as soon as I have a few moments of free time. The mods list on the car is really quite basic.. Intake, exhuast, trans, rear, wheels, tires, suspension... just all the normal boltons (every one of them).. and weight reduction.

Wish I could have been there, congrats again. You were pretty pumped when you called me.
To the skeptics, you might want to really look at the numbers. Keith and Sean both dynoed around 415rwhp cam only thru open headers. That's pretty consistent. Keith is maybe 150 lighter, but He also has like a 8" 5200 stall compared to Sean's nitrous converter. All in all, the numbers are all in line with reality. I was there when Keith went low 11's, and then 10.9 that one day. I rode down and did some spotting and just supported a friend.
I think we are past the point in the community where we immediatley put on the skeptic hat. After all, most of the longtimers know each other and frankly talk on the fone too.
Let me know when the torque arm comes in, that one you have now is ready for the dumpster!

Yeah, I drive mine a lot, not daily, but a lot! I have the pepboy beetle radials up front for the skinnies which stay on all the time and two sets of rear draglites, one with pepboy 275/60/15 for my street tires (definately need to get some drag radials for the street, those tires are just dumb, but they were really cheap, like $60 a piece, so at the time I just grabbed 'em cuz I didn't have too much money, plus they're lasting forever, they're still not worn down yet and i've had 'em on the car for over a year!!!) and one set with my ET Drags on 'em.
