Default Roll Cage Helps in an Accident???

will a 6+ point roll cage help in an accident? for example losing control and the side of your car slams into a pole?

The intention of it is to keep the body of the car from collapsing, particularly in a roll over. So, for the most part it will help protect you better than the crash bars inside the doors and the overall structure of the car. That's not to say that you will not get injured though. So, don't go robbing a bank and getting into any high speed chases.

It should make your car safier, just make sure you have padding wherever your head could come in contact with, those bars are hard

Also if you use a harness with the roll bar/cage, otherwise you will get injured a lot more with a roll bar/cage than without one. This is because you will be bouncing around inside and not being properly restrained to one position.

it should make it much safer, but i did know a kid that hit a tree, and the bar snapped and almost stabbed him!!! and another kid i know got hit and the car folded and they couldnt get out, so they had to cut the cage.
but i know i would rather have it then not.

Structurally (sp?) safer.. but for you without the helmet on, much more dangerous.

of course i will be wearing a helmet when i get serious (during races only) but when cruising i wouldnt wear one. ill have bride seats with takata harnesses so ill be stuck on the seat.

how much more would chromoly be in cost over the other type of metals used? is chromoly stronger?

Chromoly is stronger than mild steel but they are both equal in strength when you have a cage built. The reason is you use a thinner wall thickness of tube to help with the weight savings yet still hold the same strength as you would with a thicker mild steel bar.

If you can afford that stuff then you can afford the extra cost for CroMo.
