first of all, u only have one cam. second, no u dont have to drop the engine. for a head/cam swap, u simply take off the front accessories(radiator, condensor, pulley, front cover) along with the intake parts(manifold, throttlebody, airlid) and exhaust manifolds/headers...and there u have it. once u are down to a bare longblock minus the intake manifold, u are ready to do the swap. go to ls1howto.com and read the install writeups on the right. jmx is a knowledgable guy and his instructions are very thorough.
head/cam swaps are done all the time on these cars with the motor intact.

A buddie of mine and me pulled a LT1 from the bottom, pain in the ***. If it can stay in, then keep it that way.

just did the same thing to mine.. u don't pull the engine. Cam is the easy part u doon't have 2 pull the intake. iinstructions are easy 2 follow. heads are easy 2. head bolts are torque to tight. the radiator has 2 go for the cam change though but it's easy. for the easy do both at once.don't forget and let a pro size the heads and cam 4 u or u could use the qrong springs.

Yea, it was my motor that got pulled... (Z-286speed's post)... its been a long process... but ive done heads cam on my LT1 with the motor in the car and its better to do it that way. If you are really proficient under a car, you can drop the motor in about 3 hours and get easy access to everything, but it is still a pain with all the accessory brackets.

I wouldnt drop the motor if I were you.

What they said. No reason to drop the motor. Check out that LS1howto.com site. It's really pretty easy.
