you can there are some that work better then others...if you do a search here or on hptuner.com/forums i think you'll have luck finding which ones work best.

The USB Adapters will work fine, shouldn't be any lag issues provided a decent USB adapter is used...

Stay away from Radio shack and Belkin Adapters, those have issues

I've been using this one:
http://sewelldev.com/usbtoserial.asp but have Blue Screen (BSOD) issues sometimes ... seems the drivers have problems closing the USB Connection and causes a hardware fault of sorts that windows can't recover from ... I've been using the latest driver released mid 2004 and it's been pretty stable though

some have also had good luck witht he keyspan USB devices
http://www.hptuners.com/forum/YaBB.p...num=1108372600

There's also the option of a PCMCIA serial port.. .this is the best option imho but also the priciest... I have just because I'm a tech geek heh ... but the usb adapters work well as well

What about a Radio shack adapter? Is it acceptable?

see above ... some have had success w/the radioshack ones... but seems most of the time when there are problems it's because a radioshack or belkin adapter are being used

I had the Belkin adapter and had issues everytime I used it.

Got the Keyspan one and it works perfect.
