Default Tuning surging idle-Leave car with tuner so it can be cold??

After my winter mods, LS6 intake, headers and tr-220 cam I had it tuned by a local shop. I am still having idle issues. I will be bringing it back next week

My question is: Do I need to leave it with him for a couple of days so it is cold to have the tuning right, or is this something they should be able to do when the car is warm??

I figured my cam was small enough that idle would not be much of an issue, but I have surging at cold and other times. Turns out I was wrong?

Thanks!!!

They can fix it from whatever the coldest it gets during this time of year (which is the coldest ECT they will be able to adjust base running airflow from), but I have never really seen a tune where a pro got that right. The rest of the table you should be able to fudge below your coldest ECT. I hand smoothed mine, and then used poly smoothing on mine in HPTuners. My base airflow is pretty freaking close, with minimal "trimming".

Are they really that good of a shop? It sounds like an excuse for them to take a joyride in your car. If you trust the shop, I suppose. Make sure you write down your mileage when you leave it. If it has extra miles on it the next day, give them hell. The colder the better for getting your running airflow right.

I trust the shop. They have much nicer cars than mine for joy riding. I just want them to have the car cold if they need to. Then they can get this right so I don't have to go back again.

Thanks!!

If a shop is willing to try cold start to recereate the problems, sure why not.

If I trust a shop to work on my car, I trust them to drive it with respect. However, the number of people I trust to work on my car can be counted on 1 hand.

Would you guys still suggest using that Idle spreadsheet that is floating around here to tune idle??

I believe you log values (stft, stit, ect.) and then input them into the spreadsheet and presto. It calculated a new Base Airflow for you.

This the best way to do it?
