Default anyone running the Comp Cam 220/224?

This cam appears just a nudge above the Comp Cam 216/220, which gets great reviews. I will be running 2003 LS6 heads, LS6 intake manifold, LS6 injectors, Dynatech longtube headers w/high flow cats and X-pipe and a Vararam cold air intake. I want good drivability, reliability, idle and mileage as I'll be taking long trips with this car. My car is a 2000 C5 A4 with 3.15 gears. Sure would like some input back on this cam as I hope to be ordering a cam on Monday. Thanks!

here's a recent test comparing the comp 220/224 .581/.581 115LSA with vinci/crane 1.7 accelerated lift rockers vs the vinci 055 cam 216/224 .551/.551 113LSA (1.7 ratio) with 1.8 accelerated lift rockers (new lift .583/.583) from there AFR test corvette. hope this gives you some idea on what you wil lbe expecting from it. http://www.vincihighperformance.com/...CT%20PAGE.HTML

here, i'll quote exactly what roger vinci stated in the vinci AFR thread.

They and others, utilize the lobe profile to move their valve. We, on the other hand, utilize the lobe profile and the quick lift geometry of our rockers and our cams to accelerate the valve. While both combinations seem similar, the quick lift cam and rocker package produces more low end torque without sacrficing horsepower. This results in a car that is more responsive, and therefore, I think, more fun to drive because there is more seat of the pants performance in every day driving. At the strip, both combinations fair very well. We are far from finished testing various combinations and we will share the results with you when we finish each phase. The more I play around with these AFR heads, the more I am impressed. Keep up the work AFR, I am looking forward to trying our first set of 225's. Roger

I don't know if you noticed, but I replied to a previous thread of yours titled How does Comp Cam 216/220 (RPM XR269HR) compare to the stock 2003 LS6 cam? about this cam.

This LS13767R/3753R HR14+4 grind is a mild custom grind, so you had to talk to a Comp Cams person concerning it. Did you have doubts about what he told you? If that's why your asking, I think they are pretty sincere, reliable techs.

He probably told you to set the PCM Rev Limit 6600rpm, Shift @ 6500rpm. They say the horsepower increase on stock car should be in 25 to 30hp range.

I will be installing the Comp Cams 26915 springs as there is no need for really stiff springs with that lift.

If you believe that moderation is the key to near-stock reliability, then we've probably chosen the right cam.

As to those "accelerated lift" jockeys, they don't take their cars on long trips or keep them for tens of 1000's of miles. They DO pull their valve covers off and check the springs somewhat frequently though. . . . .

Can you decide now?

The information I posted is a copy of your post. You're the one i got the info from. The reason I posted this thread is you hadn't had a chance to install the cam yet, and i believe Comp Cams is closed over the weekend, so I was wondering if anyone had any experience with it. The cam is not listed on Comp's site. The HR269XR I was looking at has a power band of 1300 to 6300rpm which seems almost ideal. Your 220/224 seems a step up from the 216/220 I was looking at, which was previously recommended to me by Comp Cams. I'm trying to make up my mind so I can order a cam tomorrow. What a PITA that decision is turning out to be! Thanks for any info you can give me.

well for this accelerated lift jockey, she drives her car everyday. been on there for over a year now(so about 13000 miles). only touched the valvesprings to swap them to the VHP heads i installed. what do you consider long trips? just made a 630 mile round trip to the NMCA event. so, that just made it an easier decision on what to get.

Did you get LS1 Edit dyno tuning performed on the car? Also, how was overall performance on the car? I just ordered that cam today. Tell me I didn't make a mistake...

Well, the Comp 216/220 is going in next week, along with the LS6 heads, LS6 intake, LS6 injectors, Dynatech headers and high-flow cats, w/X-pipe and an LS1 Edit dyno-tune. I know my setup is very mild, compared to many on this Forum, but is what I want and should yield 425-450 crank horsepower, and more importatntly, a very substantial increase "under the curve". I can't wait! Thanks for all the thoughts, input and suggestions!
Ed
