New to LS1's and just got a 99 T/A an it's making a weird noise *w/video*
Well i've been floating around these forums for awhile an just this weekend i picked up a 1999 T/A auto with about 88k on it. On the test drive the car seemed great but i noticed it seemed to have what sounded like an exhaust leak i figured no biggie since it has a magnaflow exhaust on it with clamps holding it together just figured it was coming from that. All i can see it has is an SLP lid an the magnaflow catback everything else looks stock.
Well we brought the car home this weekend and i looked further into the exhaust leak sound, but come to find it out it's not coming from the exhaust at all i found no leaks. The sound seems to be coming from somewhere on the drivers side of the engine compartment. It doesn't make the sound when it's idling just when you rev. it past about 2000rpm it'll start making the noise. And it's pretty noticable if your paying attention. It doesn't seem to hurt the performance or nothing of the car. It sounds like a mix between an exhaust leak an a tapping sound. The car will be going back to the dealer if its something that can be fixed but after doing some research it's probably something i'll have to live with. I'll see if i can get a vid. of it that might help trying to see what it is. I sprayed some carb cleaner around thought maybe it was a vaccum leak but that lead me no where.
Anyone got any ideas??

Your oil pressure sounds fine. If it stays at 40 and climbs when you rev it.
Yes, taking the tubes off will cause a check engine light. Try removing your egr and cleaning the egr valve with throttle body cleaner.

yea if you bought making that noise. Someone could have liked the sounds off the rev limter. They ARE some kids around here where I live that love to hear the rev LIMTER in a Ls1. I have replaced three different cars pushrods because they bent them.

Cool i'll have to take it back then an tell them to look at the pushrods. Yeah we bought it how it sits right now with the noise an everything. I was thinking pushrods but it sounded more like an exhaust leak cause it went away but maybe it doesn't it just can't be heard over the motor when it's rev'ed past a certain point. Thanks i'll tell them to check that out.
This noise is probably why it was traded in sitting at a honda dealership, and probably why it was cheaper then others i seen at other dealships.

My car sounded like that before I did the cam change. Since then the sounds have disappeared. I always thought it was from either pushrods or a header leak. I did install new pushrods (with the cam change), and a couple bolts on my driver's side header were a good 3/4 of a turn loose.

Just an update, i took the car back to the dealership last thursday. Got there an the tech. guy took it for a drive an came back an was like "well you wanna take a ride with me an show me what it's doing i don't heard nothing" . I said no just pop the hood an i'll show you. Anyways the owner of the dealership was out there too and they all heard the "noise". The owner said no i have no problem fixing it an sent it off to a place that does most of their work. Which leads me to believe they knew the car was making the noise. They had to have thought it was an exhaust leak too cause the back two header bolts were shiny like they had a wrench on them someone tried to tighten them but the others were rusty. That and they had no arguements of fixing it i figured they would said i done it or something an try to get out of fixing it.
But it's not done as of yet hopefully pick it up today or tomorrow, the guy that sold the car to me didn't really have any answer's as to what was wrong but he said he heard them on the phone say something about a rocker arm but i'll get the full scoop on it when i pick it up.
