Default slp ZL402 or ZL383 cali leagal?

this is gonna sound like a really noob question, but would a zl402 or the zl383 from slp have the ability to pass california emmisions with some ported heads and a mild cam? i mean, the mechanic isnt going to be able to tell the difference in the looks of the motor at all, but will it pass the sniffer as well? how much does more ci effect emmisions output?

Our 427s have been tuned to pass Cali emissions. Takes a tight AF/timing curve, but it can be done.

Techinally in any state, no since the motor was not originally equipped. Most state inspectors are high school educated, they really do not know the difference.

...In New York, they recently killed the sniffer test and now just look into the PCM with a computer to seek out any thrown codes that cause pollution....

Consequently, you could put that big-*** motor in a NY car and it would pass inspection easy - as long as there are no OBD2 codes...

For me, this was like a devine blessing from a dead pope saint since I have a H/C car that is a dirty mother. I usually have to jump through a million hoops to get a sniffer to pass the car..... this year is was a real snort since I just blew past Big Brother's computer with a clean PCM.

More-and-more states are moving to this system since it is easier and cheaper to administer... States like cheap **** so they can spend your tax dollars on other worthless stuff like welfare...

So you should petition your Governator and wife Maria to kill the sniffer and go with a cheaper better PC system....

the choice of shortblock has little to do with passing or failing emissions. as long as you've got all your emissions equipment, run the appropriate carb approved headers (shorties), and a cam with the overlap in check you'll pass all day long. all my buddies got big displacement stangs and they pass no problem 331 to 427's.

of course you'll take a huge performance loss by staying smog legal, almost to the point of not even bothering.

ya, but could i have a piggyback computer or somthing that i could run along with cutouts b4 the cats so i could run the performance setting every day and on the track, and have an emmisions setting with closed cutouts?
