Default What size allen wrech is needed to pull out coolant drain plugs ?

Before you say "Hey dumba$$, go measure it yourself", I'm abot 6000 miles away from my car at the moment. I want to make sure I have everything I need when I get home because I'm installing a new cam. I might as well drain the cooling system while I'm draining the radiator. I know for a fact that I don't have a large enopugh allen wrench because the last time I though about draining it I just drained the radiator because I was too lazy to go to the store at the time. Thanks for the help.

Sounds stuck; mine turned with a pair of pliers. How many miles on the 98'? Ever do a drain and refill? If the petcok hasn't been opened in 7 years, I imagine it might be a little sticky.

It does not screw out. Dont try to do that. Turn it about a 1/4 turn so it move out of it's notch. Then, pull it outward.

Then I must be crazy, because the dozens upon dozens of LS1s I've worked on over the past few years ALL had petcocks that threaded out.

well it has 100k miles on it and i'm farily sure it was drained because the cam was installed by someone else before i bought the car a month or two ago...but it actually broke some of the plastic when i tried turning it with some pliers...

You are not crazy, they are threaded. No pulling involved.

vettes are different from F cars. One is a pull as you twist, the other is threaded.

How about later model F-bodies? Just curious.

Brains, you could still be crazy.
