Need help selecting the right cam
I know there are a million posts like this and I apologize. I have read up everything on cams that I can, but I feel I cannot make an informed decision.
My car is more or less a weekend cruiser and strip car. I'd really like to be able to hit high 11's if possible (might be pushing it).
I know I will need to upgrade the valvesprings, but I don't want to have to replace them again for a long time. I'd be willing to spend a little more on the right springs to have longer life out of them.
I have and will be keeping the stock heads.
I'm pretty sure I only want 114 LSA since its an automatic
My car runs 12.9s as is - but has had some kind of tuning problem (long story). If running right should run 12.7's or so.
I'm getting tired of being beaten by all my friends modded EVO's, Subies, and DSM's!
The main points are that the car is an automatic with 3:42 gears (upgraded from 2:73) and a 3500 stall. So I need a cam that works in particular with those gears and stall.
Here are all of my mods:
* WS6 Wheels from a 2002 Trans Am
* SLP Loudmouth Cat-back exhaust system
* "Free Ram Air" cutout mod
* K&N Air Filter
* Smooth Air bellows on the intake
* SLP Intake Lid
* Throttlebody Coolant Bypass
* BMI Auxiliary Transmission cooler
* TCI Super Streetfighter 3500 stall converter
* Energy Suspension Polyurethane Transmission mount
* Energy Suspension Polyurethane Torque Arm Mount Bushings
* 180 ' thermostat
* Jantzer Ported and Polished Throttlebody
* BFG Drag Radials on back.
* Flow Tech Long Tube Headers
* Offroad Ypipe
* EGR system removed
* AIR system removed
* 'Cats' removed
* Approx 115 lbs of weight reduction
* 3:42 gears
* NGK Spark Plugs
* Taylor Plug Wires
* Hypertech Tuning
* LS6 Intake Manifold
I appreciate any help you all have to offer.
Thanks!
Al

chaning the springs is something you will have to do sometime or another...
buy a spring tool (crane) and it shouldnt ever take longer than 3 hours.
the higher the lift and more violent the lobes the more youll have to change...
it will be worth it though...
if your gonna do the cam swap yourself then go ahead and do a fairly large cam. 23x/23x 59x. lift
