My Asp Pulley Is Coming Apart!!!
I put the pulley on my car a few months ago and have put on 1,000 miles since then. This weekend I was doing my cam install, and I noticed that the front part of the pulley is seperating from the main body! It looks like after they spot weld that ring onto the face of the pulley they grind the welds flat before they paint it. There are 3 bolt holes that I guess I can use those to fasten that face down. Probably 5/16 fine thread and some loctite should do the trick. I want to do this before the last two spot welds fail. Does anyone else have this problem?

Any new bolts will most likely throw the balance off and create a vibration in the very device that's designed to stop vibrations.
Call ASP or whoever you bought the pulley from to see if they'll replace it. Less money to replace a pulley than an engine.

Yeah I was worried about the balance, but then I started to think that I would only be using 1/4" length bolts. I was also planning to borrow my buddy's digital scale that reads down to fractions of a gram, so I would only use bolts that weigh the same. I know I should call, but I don't feel like getting the run around, and quite frankly, I don't feel like taking that pulley off again!
I was wondering if I was the only one who had failing welds.

Hey bud I read in an older Issue of HOT ROD MAG that the ASP Pulleys do not affect the balance, the LS1's are balanced internally, so you may get away with the screws. What my concern would be is the INTEGRITY of the pulley after you add the screws. That pulley is under a lot of pressure, any defect may cause a serious problem after a while, replace it..

That piece came off of my ASP pulley a long time ago, I just left it off and never asked any questions. You are talking about the piece that just has the name ASP and specs or something on it right?

My pulley separated too, it was the old design. It was probably 4 years old so I didn't expect ASP to replace it. I was glad that it didn't come apart at a high RPM. Only reason that I knew about it was it was making a knocking sound.
