Transmission noise through shifter:
Is it normal to be able to hear the transmission through an aftermarket shifter? It doesn't really bother me too much, but if it's a tell tale I'd rather fix it now than later.

From what ive heard it happens with aftermarket shifters...i've got a pro-5.0 shifter and i can hear my tranny wine a little, but i also partially cut the boot at the base as well, that probably didn't help with the noise level. From what i've heard it is nothing to worry about...if im wrong someone please inform me

I have the same issue. I installed an SLP short shifter with a short stick. I love the setup but ever since I added the short stick, I've been hearing my tranny through the shifter. I asked around and the disposition was, "Get use to it." The short stick does not have a rubber silencer like the stock shifter had. This rubber silencer is there for that reason. If you are still concern about your tranny noise like I was, just have it checked for proper fluid levels. That's about all you can do. I had mine looked at, at the Wal-Mart auto shop. They did it for free.

I think it mostly has to do with the stock rubber isolated stick....I have the short stick on my stock Hurst (which has never been off the tranny) and I can hear the little tranny noises.

I see. Thanks for that, what you guys are saying makes perfect sense. I did check the tranny fluid, and it's looking good to go. I just wanted to make sure. It's my first M6 F-body.
