Default shifting from 2nd to 3rd while racing IS SLOW

When I ran my car at the track and started in 1st ran it to 6500 rpm bumed it into 2nd and ran it to 3rd it would not shift on its own I had to bumped it into drive it hit close to 6800 rpm before it shift and when I go ahead and bump it into drive it shifts out at 6600 rpms and its like its in slow motion or a rocking motion kinda not a hard shift is this my shift points are wrong or what. I bought the car with all the mods and the rev limiter has been turned off Any ideas.??

You mean if you leave it in OD it won't shift itself. I never manual shift mine it acts all messed up when I do it. Your better off leaving it shift and not doing the way you are. Unless you have had tranny work down.

How is it revving that high? Have you changed the rev limiter for some reason? Stock is 6200 rpm. Don't shift it yoursef.

i had the same "rocking" motion in my 2-3 shift- it kind of held up for a split second while shifting, i messed with everything tuning wise (hptuners), and eventually returned alot of it (shift adaptation times mainly) back to safe/stock #'s and just had to deal with it. it has gone away a little bit now or maybe i just don't notice it as much. i think it also has to do with my nice hard 1-2 shift then the softer feeling 2-3 shift, since my 1-2 shift is the only thing i have it to compare to.

there are things you can do, like drilling the holes in the plate (v-body plate) bigger and im sure other little things but i didn't bother.

leave it in drive, why shift it if you can program it to shift EXACTLY where you want it to in each individual gear.

My opinion is that the third gear fluid circuit is too long, and it's accumulator is the backside of the second gear servo so restricting it to help speed the shift is not a option.
Also the factory or even some rebuilds the 3-4 clutch clearance isn't ideal.
I've had the same problem with 700R4's, took them apart and changed only the 3-4 clutch clearance and eliminated the problem.

The 4L60E's seem to have the same problem. My 2002 Camaro SS has had the problem. I don't really feel like pulling the trans out until I get a converter, at that time I'll mess with the 3-4 clutch.
Instead I installed a TransGo shift kit and used Probuilts suggestions on what to drill the feed hole sizes to.
That helped but the lag was still there.
What ended up almost eliminating the problem was using HP Tuners to alter the Upshift Pressure Modifier.
By doing this and watching the results with a transmission pressure gauge I feel comfortable with this even though it's not fixed properly in my opinion, it should work for at least a little while.
And if it does fail it should just start to lag again and burn the 3-4 clutches, at that point I'll have no choice but to take the trans apart and fix it right.

Hmmm mine shifted from 2-3 slow but I figured it was the tm doing it. I removed the tm this week and the shift is very nice now. No pause at all, my 1-2 did slow down for some reason though. Still figuring that one out.

Yes I did the TM first. Someone reduced it for me, then I got HPT and eliminated it completely. Never felt a change though.
The only TM related problems I've felt was the car falling on it's face while getting into the throttle, It was bad stock and even worse with the SK.

13.2 @ 106 before tune
What are you running now?
I was running 13.5-13.6 with my 2002 SS.
After the tune, LM, Lid and Shift Kit it runs 13.2 @ 106 also. Thats on the factory installed BFG's and no other mods.
Are you running that time with only those mods?

I have been messing with a blown '04 Silverado that
has bad shift flare on the 2-3, and it's a vacuum
modulated rebuilt trans. Seems like there must be a
hydraulic problem and a hydraulic solution. It has a
shift kit already. Where is the right place to look, for
an early 2 release / late 3 apply problem?

Yes this car has always ran good. I haven't ran the car since I dropped 80 pds off the front and had it tuned. Those times were at Norwalk in Ohio, I was running street tires also. Stock the car ran 13.5-13.6 @ 103.

Second gear band travel, 3-4 clutch clearance, band release hole size in the seperator plate, and also the third apply hole size.
