Default dealerships, bullshit, etc

Can a dealership deny warranty for cats (8 yr/80,000 mi on emissions equipment) because I have an aftermarket torque converter installed?

don't see why they would even try. What's the name of that Law again? The one that states for a dealership to deny you of a warranty based on the fact you modded the car, they have to prove the modification caused the problem.

how would they know your converter wasn't stock if they were just looking at your cats?

They'd just have to drive it into the bay to tell a difference.

No way, no how. I had a cat go out on my car, dealer replaced free of charge even after seing my nitrous setup, he said there was no way to prove that the nitrous was the cause.

the dealership is blowing smoke up your ***, tell them they have to do it, if not report that dealer to gm, its been done before, they have to do it. just some *** holes trying to screw u out of money, tell them the converter is stock you are having tranny problems, they would have to pull the tranny to verify a converter if they wanted to deny it, they have to prove why they declined you, and they will waste more money doing that.

guy i know had a nwe honda accord, they told him the cats were fine they dont need replacement and after warranty was up they said it needed a cat, they just want money

Matt

The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act

http://www.sema.org/main/semaorghome.aspx?ID=50096 Might be of some use.

i can't believe that they would deny it. first off the dealer gets paid by GM to do warranty work. second off GM dealers atleast here in oklahoma are really slow in the service end. I'm working as a tech and have worked on less than a dozen cars in the last 2 weeks thats how slow we are and it pisses me off that other dealers do things like this when we would do it in a heartbeat.

Absolutely, positively NOT. If that's what they claim it's BULLSHIT.

Edit: Even if you now plan to get headers I'd make the dealer install new cats for you, just for the hell of it. That is, if I felt safe leaving my car there. I absolutely refuse to let anyone associated iwth a dealer touch my car, my local dealer sucks ballz and has screwed up too many times. Although at least with them it was gross incompetence rather than bullshit.

Unfortunately I do not have the time needed for this type of crap
We need the car in perfect working order by next wednesday, and I have a feeling this would take a bit longer than that.

Plus, I value my nerves more.. they don't regenerate, you know...
**** the $, we get to keep our nerves and the car gets a few goodies.

Contact the area rep. They have to warranty the emission equipment for 6 years/100,000 miles.
As posted above the dealer has to prove that the mod in question caused the cats to fail.

Dealers like that are the reason my car hasn't been back to one for 6 years.
