Default How much slower are 18s over 17s?

How much slower are 18's over 17's? Has anyone done back to back track passes? Assuming traction is equal, of course. Maybe someone has done back to back dyno pulls? Im undecided about going with 17x9.5/17x11 or with 18x9.5/18x10.5. I love the look of 18s. But then again I also love the look of wide tires in the back. Id be running 315s or 295s on the 17s or 18s respectively. Theres a bunch of pros and cons for each... Can someone just help me get a feel for how much of a performance hit moving up to the 18s would be?

Might not be slower at all......depends on what wheels....many 18's are lighter then any factory 17. The sidewall difference from a 40 to a 35 is pretty small as well. In some cases, if the wheels are lighter, and the tires are as good or better, it mught run quicker....many factors are there.

What's up guy! Yeah, I know that the ZR-1's are heavy wheels.

well, I really wish they made 17x11 z06 wheels, but since they dont, id have to move up to 18s. I really really like the look of z06s but moving up to 18 costs a lot more for tires. I then was thinking about just getting 17 zr1s wich are nice basic clean looking wheels, but they dont do it for me the same way z06 wheels do. The fact that I could run 315 steamrollers out back however make me strongly consider these. If theres a big performance hit running one or the other, that might be enought to sway me.

Well a 17" x 11" ZR1 with a 315 is probably going to weigh more than a Z06 18" x 10.5" with a 295 tire . . .

But will the added width and taller side wall of a 315 on the 17" grip better than a 295 with a lower sidewall, probably . . .

Your scenario is dealing with (assuming replica wheels) heavy wheels - period . . .
