Ok, I don't know what the deal is with this sensor, but this is my 4th one that has failed on me! Ususally, when on the gas about 3/4 or more, the gauge will suddenly read at 0, the car will fall flat on it's face, then it will come back up, and the car acts normal again. I checked all the wiring and nothing is rubbing and it all looks normal. I thought maybe the head wasn't flowing enough coolant, but wouldn't that put the temp higher??
I have now been through 4 sensors.

Anyone know why I would keep killing these things?

How close is your header flange to the sensor??

very far away, remember, it's going to 0*, not the high end.

Also, I have PP s2 5.3L and paceshitters.

My jethot flange is less and 1/4 away from the sensor. I was just wondering if the heat from the flange was causing the sensors to break down internally

Could it somply be a bad connection? I had that problem. If heat is causing this, thenwrap some heat tape (for headers or spark plugs) around it.

Check the sheath on the wiring to see if there is any exposure of bare wire, even the slightest can cause problems. If the sensor isn't getting fried internally then it would have to be somewhere in the wiring itself. Good luck!

MOST GM coolent temp sensors work like this:

open connection = pegged min temp
straight to ground = pegged max temp

now the LS1s sensor has two wires.. im willing to bet that somewhere in the circuit, one of thoes goes to ground, the other goes to the PCM.

if the ground circuit wire were to have a bad connection, it would work....sometimes. but other times, it'll fail giving a reading of zero



how are you looking at the temp? a scan tool?
if its the gauge thats showing up wrong, then you have other problems.
