Default German Castrol Question

I've done a search and haven't come up w/ much. I use Mobil 1 5W-30 in my car. What's the difference in using a different weight like 0w30? Also how is this German Castrol stuff better?
I want to use the best and I thought Mobil 1 was it...

German Castrol is a real synthetic group IV (PAO) that uses esters that are derived from PAO. This is a unique chemistry. Most esters are group V. It has shown extremly low wear in Used Oil Analysis (UOAs). The U.S. Castrol is a different animal. It is hydrocracked (highly processed) mineral oil that legally can be labeled as synthetic. It has a decent additive package but cannot match GC.

well i dunno about some exoctic oil... but i know ive never seen a cleaner engine that was run so hard and abused so much as the one i pulled some pieces off the other day with 44k on it... no wear on the stock cam lifters were shiny like new, looked like a thousand mile motor and i thought id find **** messed up..ill never trade in my mobile 1.. this was thru fram extraguard filters, which i just learned aren't as bad as the reg. ones but some of the worst out there, i will be swapping my oil and filter again when its been 250 miles or so after the cam swap.. mobile 1 5w30 is still the best imo, tho ill be choosing another filter.

The only place I know of in the US is Autozone. Have mine stashed in the garage....waiting till my M1 is a year old before swapping. Have read that you have to get the clerk to ring up on the register to get true price. Worked for me. Shelf sticker said 5.19; picked up for 4.99.

The older stuff is GREEN!! The new stuff is the normal color. Check out www.bobistheoilguy.com for more info.

No, the mobil 1 filters don't flow very well from what I've read. Better off with a cheapo STP.

au contraire (or however the hell you spell that) The Mobil 1 filter is an EXCELLENT choice. Right up on top with Purolator and Wix.

The Mobil 1 oil filter does not flow very well at all, and I don't recommend it for use in high performance engines. The K&N is my first choice, it flows very well and has shown me excellent results in my oil analysis reports.

they flow terrible...
mobil 1 filters are like $12....the acdelco filters are about $4
i don't see why everyone is so caught up on this german castrol...not many people leave their oil in for over 3k miles..and even if you do you have to change the filter...if you are going to do that you might as well change the oil...so i don't see what is so wrong with using mobil 1 0w40...it is MUCH easier to find...and will do just as well for the common person...i just think it is kind of stupid that once this stuf came out everyone wanted it...i'm wondering what's the big deal

Because of people who send in their used oil to company's that analysis it, and it comes back with better wear results than Mobil 1.

Their Racing 41 is very good. I'm not impressed with their 5w30 though, it thinned out very quickly into a 5w20 when I ran it in my wife's Honda.

liquid schwartz!!!!!!!

Mobil 1 0-40W seems to do about the same as GC in oil analysis tests.... of course the GC tests I have been comparing against are PatMans (good source of info) and the Mobil 1 was never run the same amount of time.

I have read this oil filter study many times..... http://people.msoe.edu/~yoderw/oilfi...lterstudy.html

So what part/model # for the K&N Filter would I buy? Is there a long and a short version that will fit LS1's? I assume the long version is the one to have, right?

Thanks!

Manny
