Default Please consider all involved

I was out to meet up with the flock of street racers that gather every Friday & saturday. So i decide to actually follow them into a side street and park. There had to be over 75 cars there already and lots more on thier way. so everyone is parking on both sides of the street, and i see a car fly by because the street was open. So i drive to the end of the block so i could open it up and fly by myself. The street was clear, so as im flying by maybe at 60 or somwhere around there, this car decides to cut a u-turn right in front of me, i slammed the brakes and i started sliding toward him and also toward the parked cars. I thank God that i was able to stop without hitting anything or more important anyone. All i could think about after that was, i was within a few feet of a serious accident that could of really hurt those involved espciallly those standing outside their parked cars.

While i was parked i could remember these kids (had to be jr. high age) were there.

My point is, is it really worth it?.........and can you really predict what will happen? Ive talked to one guy who doesnt street race anymore after loosing a couple of freinds.

Ill tell you one thing, im saving all my racing time for the track.....

Stay safe out there my freinds.........peace

You say that now, but how tempting is it when a cocky ricer pulls up next to you or a bad *** car you wanna see the outcome of pulls up. Its easier said then done. If you wanna quit street racing all together I suggest you sell your car and buy a civic or only drive it when heading to the track. If you have good self-control, which i believe I have with many things minus street racing. Its too tempting. Im in your boat, its scary....I need to sell my car or something before I get killed, I just love it too much.

I agree that the temptaion is there; however, it seems more a matter of choice? I get challenges all the time from the rice crowd around here. I simply shake my head and ignore them...drives 'em crazy (lol).

I'll get on it from time to time to cure the need for acceleration, but NEVER on a crowded street or where there is a chance something like he describes can happen.

I think you've made the right decision, and an adult....can resist

I am 19 now and I have already thrown about 4K to lawyers, tickets, and court costs. Even though I never race anywhere crowded I still can not fight the urge to not get on it. I have tried to stop but it usually lasts for a few weeks then I am back to racing on the street. Saying you will stop racing is like saying you will stop breathing....Cant do it. Well, for me anyway...maybe because of my age but I hope it will pass soon.

Edit - Oh yea, it doesnt really matter if the street is crowded or empty. Something serious can happen at all times while racing. Nothing is guaranteed.

I disagree with you. Hopefully common sense can prevail instead of ego.

Yes
, it is so very tempting. It was a great feeling when i raced a civic and hung with him until he hit about 95 mph then i slammed it and he was a quarter mile in my rear view. The bastard followed me after that for some reason.

Having a fast car and trying to quit street racing is like having a huge porno collection and trying to quit jacking off...............

Not sure why anyone would race in that environment.

yea, theres a time and a place...dont be dumb around alot of people where someone can get hurt. when we go out on sat night to the meetup, its in a big circuit city parking lot. ricers will haul *** up and down the parking lot and have burnout contests and ****. and when they goto leave theyll haul *** again. im waiting for one of them to slam into a row of parked cars or hit one of the buildings. i almost want it to happen so theyll learn. but then we wont be able to come back and someone could get hurt. but thats the only way theyll learn.

I stick to the track and highway pulls. Everytime a ricer tries to race me i just shake my head or ignore them. It's not worth racing a civic with an airplane wing and risk getting into an accident or getting a ticket to prove that i could beat a 16 second car. If a vette or a viper or a mustang pulls up to me then it's a different story. But other than that i try to keep it on the track

When we go, all the cars there to watch are parked behind the line. NO ONE gets to park past the line. I've seen what you described myself, only that car couldn't stop. I've also seen a really wild 429 SCJ Torino get loose in 2nd and take out four cars. That was at Rankin Rd. in TX way back when. If you're gonna do this, ya have to make safety number one. Even then there's no gaurantees.

Funny how nobody seems to think aboout having everyone park behind the line......im thinking because no one knows everybody and some people just dont like being told what to do..........you know, all chiefs and no indians..........or maybe they just havent thought about it, or its even possible that they seen the opening race in fast and the furious too many times and think thats just the way its supposed to look and go down.................and i dont mean that to sound like a ***** or anything, but it just might be true. As i mentioned before, i saw some Jr. high looking kids out there that night.................

Well, the kids (Ricers included) call me Papa Charlie (not to my face) and usually listen when I bitch or preach at 'em. Besides, if they don't, they don't get to watch me and some of the big boys run 'cause they know I'll just set it up and slide out to play without telling them. Most of them, excepting a few import drivers, pay attention to what's going on. It did take a while to bring them around though.
