PLEASE HELP? ticking after cam install????
me and some of my friends just installed a F13 cam, dual springs, chromoly pushrods, and LT headers on my 98 ss. The car has 58000 miles on it. I bought the cam used from one of my friends with 2000 miles on it. After the swap I kept hearing loud ticking that would come and go. This is not the usuall LS1 noisy valvetrain. It sounds like a lifter is about to come OUT! So I replaced the lifters with comp OE replacment lifters. SAME TICK!! The sound is coming from the drivers side back cylinder, it sounds like just under the valve cover. The back driverside sparkplug is white. I also swaped the back two driverside rocker arms, made no difference. The chevrolet place told me I might have a bad camshaft. What do you guys think? I haven't been able to drive my car in two weeks, please help me, Thanks

Are those pushrods stock length? If they're shorter it could cause a tapping. Also, OE lifters are not recommended for any cam that needs dual springs. It is generally recommended that you upgrade the lifters. You could have collapsed one. Is it running OK and you just hear a ticking or does it sound like it's missing?

it might sound silly but i had the same thing going buy what you are saying and i thought it was a lifter but it turned out to be a bent push rod . i didnt know it was bent as it looked ok when i was looking over it but found that the no8 rocker arm (inlet)had a little bit more play than the rest , when i took it for a blast down the street after an oil change the noise was still there than it just went away but so did one cylinder . the no8 inlet'se push rod had snaped into two little push rods and made a bit more room for the new push rod , luckly everything else was fine.

check for any header leaks, it sounds stupid but it happened to me, pulled the heads expecting to find lifter parts and it ended up being a bad header leak that i couldnt see till the port was exposed.

I have a SUPER ticky noisy sound coming from my modified Ls1 that is driving me nuts. It has a SLP head/cam/pushrod, rollmaster timing chain package and a high volume oil pump. Under the hood it sounds like a sewing machine churning away and there is a tick-it-t-tick that runs with the RPM.
A couple of the pistons did have valve to piston marks on them when I tore the motor down for a re-ring job, head/cam/bearing swap.
I did install a new 0-ring with the pump and tube when I put the motor together. Oil pressure stays around 30-40 after it is warmed up.
Running 10/40 oil.

My oil pressure gauge is mounted in the back of the motor between the heads tapped into the oil galley plug. I assume the reading there would be the same as a reading down by the filter.
I didn't put the high pressure spring in the high volume pump when I installed that. Once the car is totally warmed up, in gear, at idle (700 or so RPM), the pressure will drop to a low of 25-30. It holds 40 or so fully warmed up going down the highway. It spikes around the 50-55 mark when I first fire the motor up cold.
The noise sounds like all the rockers are a tad loose. It seems like if I could just adjust them down a tad it would be quiet.
