Who's M6's HAVEN'T crapped out on them?
I've been searching the boards for about a week now, luckily I have been able to answer all my questions without posting, but something is bugging me right now.
As you guys probobly don't know, Im looking to buy a 98 Trans Am, I personaly would like an M6, but the issue I am facing is how the board is full of how this clutch screwed up, this bearing blew out, this fluid blows, etc... and I realize that you don't make posts of "Hey everyone, my **** works perfectly!" but here is your chance.
You guys with manuals that haven't screwed up, could you please post, and if you would be so kind include the power your making and the drivetrain buildup you have done?
thanks

35k miles: full bolt ons, been running 27" et streets on street and track for about 4k miles running low 12's corrected for sea level. stock tranny, stock clutch and thinner(4.11's) gears in stock 10bolt holding strong with no whine or probs shifting. Beat on it daily.
Any car you get will have it's problems, **** happens eventually no matter what because all machines break but can be fixed.

My M6 tranny has given me zero problems. Car currently has 45k miles.
I put in a Clutch Masters clutch at 27k miles and have not had any clutch problems since. Only other mod directly related to the tranny was the B&M shifter which was installed at 20k miles.
Daily driver with mods in sig. I haven't dynoed my new setup with the Futral cam, but judging by the previous cam setup, it should be at around +-400rwhp +-385rwtq
Spec clutches horror stories here helped my clutch choice tremendously.

Mine works perfectly. I've drag raced it, road raced it, street raced it. 39,000 and no problems yet. With my recent ASA cam addition I'd guess I'm putting down 380-390ish.

111,000 miles on a bone stock tranny. I upgraded the shifter, but only because i hated the stock one. I also upgraded my clutch to a Ram PowergripHD for some 6000+rpm clutch dumps. I'd worry more about the rear end than the transmission taking a crap on you with a M6 car.

Thought i blew mine up other week. Sounded like that input shaft was snaped in half. Pulled it out and took it in and guy said he could find nothing wrong with it. This is 50k miles and borla, lid and 4:10s as mods. I beat the hell out of it too. Main thing you MUST do to an d m6 is a good shifter (Pro5.0) and drill mod. IF not you will be fixing somethig if you drive it hard at all Gm is an *** for the restriction so you canT "speed shift" your car. Makes me happy they losing money.

No probs with mine. I have a factory Hurst and the factory handle/ stick and have no probs. finding the gears I want , when I want them. I suggest doing the drill mod to the master cylinder.
You may hear the sad sack rag about how some one "had 3 T56s in the first 5k miles- what crap" but this is really a testement about that driver. These ARE stout transmissions but all manuals can be damaged by driving"style".

I think what I've gathered is the ones who have problems, beat it to **** without upgrading. I am planning on building up the rear end and transmission first.
Guess I have to research the drill mod now, thanks guys

Mine recently got re-spec'd and rebuilt... nothing wrong with it in stock form at the time, but since I do quite a bit of drag racing I went with some "preventative measures." Billet slider keys, steel shift forks, new synchros, etc.
