typically engines are left on the engine stand, oiled down, and a plastic bag is put over then and sealed VERY WELL....I've done this with two engines and I've never had a problem with either one afterwards

I used WD-40 and wrapped it VERY tight, first with a plastic roll ( think large saran-wrap ) followed by 2 layers of paint drop cloth.

Put it in my car? Seriously, coat everything internal w/ a nice heavy oil and wrap it up real tight in some heavy trash bags. For extra security you can put some dessicant in there with it to suck out any moisture in the air. You can buy this stuff at Wal-Mart, it's called "Damp Rid" or something like that. Good luck in the sand box bro, be safe.
