Default Heads Install - Good News / Bad News

Finally got my 6.0L heads installed and it fired up on the first try

Heads

Heat cycled the springs. Changed the pulley from a 4.10 to a 3.70. Set the tranny to shift @ 6200 instead of 6800.

Went for a test run. Hit 10# of boost @6800.
Check the tune and adjusted it again for 6200.

2nd run, hit 8# of boost @ 6300. Then started to hear a little knock. I am guessing a rod.

Timing was still set @ 17* and no detonation.

Knock

I just have to figure out what it is. Bottom-end or valvetrain.

OMG found the problem. Crank bolt back out and sheared the pins on the MMS pulley.

No video of the car driving? Glad it wasn't serious! I'm jealous of your procharger!

wow. It sure could have been worse.

Shouldn't keep you down too long. Gotta really tighten them crank bolts or they will back out everytime.

No it wasn't pinned. I tighten it as best I can, used Red Loctite. Being an A4, tough to hold the engine from turning.

THIS will hold the a4 and enably you to tighten bolts

Home make a tool to hold crank to allow tighten pulley bolt, insert the tool into flywheel , remove round plug ( about 2-3 inch dia. ) on bottom of of flywheel cover to insert tool
make tool useing flat bar about 12-14 in long
1/4 x 2 x 14 ( notch in the side will allow the tool to hold itself in place by cetching on side of hole)

botton out pullet flush with end of crank with old bolt ,install new bolt torque to 37 lb then pull another 120 degrees if you do not have a compass to get the right degrees ( stop and think ) mark the bolt at 180 degrees and at 90 degrees then mark 1/2 between the two marks which i think will be about 135 degrees so you may go eather 140 degrees or 120 degrees from there ,
sorry the picture does not show up correct, tool
should be about 2 in WIDE

you need to torque that baby to at least 200ftibs , loctite or not, to seat it correctly. the manuel says 240ft, but i always hit 200 and never had a problem

Well we used a break-over bar with a pipe and tighten it as tight as we could. Not sure how much torque, but we couldn't budge it anymore.
