Default Can I put 28" tires on my car or not?

I run 26" tires now. I want to run 28" tires. I know the ABS lights will come on (I'll pull the fuse) because of the height difference front to rear (26" fronts), but otherwise can I run them? Will it mess up the shift points? I'm looking at running the 325/50/15 ET radials BTW.

Also will those tires hit the rear bumper cover? They will be on 15X10 rims with 7.5" back space.

You have to rephrase your question. There's a good chance people aren't responding because they think of 28" as something else but in reality, you're referring to the total diameter of the wheel/tire combo.

IMO - I don't think the shift point would get affected since it is dependant on the RPM but I wouldn't know since I don't have an auto. Although It will mess up your speedo. Nothing any computer reprogrammer can't fix.

If you are making a major change in overall wheel diameter you are going to mess up your shift points.

Also you kind of need to specify what kind of car this is for.

28" tires refers to the height of the tire, most drag guys know that.

Sorry, this is on a 2002 Z28. I know I can have it programmed to handle the tire swap, but I will have 26" street tires and 28" race tires and don't want to have to switch it back and forth all the time. I think I'll just stick with my 26" tires for now.

You can run 28's. You may have to clearance the outer fenders front and back. I have 325 50 15 MT dr's on 15x10's w/ a 6.5 BS. I've have my fenders clearanced.

You can change tune's yourself in a matter of mintues and you can let a program run even while you are changing the tires and it will probaly finish before you unless you have a nascar style pit tieam.

Yeah but I don't have a tuning program. I am getting the car tuned at LS1speed soon but I will be switching the tires back and forth and won't have a way to change the program.

I thought about getting a handheld type programmer but everyone says it will delete the programming I already have and that would be a big problem for me.

The part about the ABS lights coming on...Is this true and why? I have 28" tall tires in the rear and 26" frontrunners and noticed that it started happening. Why?

I honestly thought this only happened on Corvettes. Never heard of it happening on an F-body.

The traction control system operates by measuring wheel speeds front and rear. It activates when the rear wheels turn faster than the fronts.

When the rear wheels run larger diameter tires they turn slower than the fronts. This can confuse the computer which expects the wheels to turn at the same rate.

I'm currently running a 25.6" (275/40/17) front tire and a 26.4" (305/35/18) rear tire without a problem. I don't know at what point the system would have a problem. I'm sure if i had a 28" rear it would.

The simple answer, yes. I'm running a 28x10.5W on my car and they fit.

Do they fit in a stock unaltered wheel well? Hah.

Are there any 28" tall tires that fit a 16" wheel? I would rather NOT have truck tires. What about 17" wheels?

275-60-15 is like a 28x11.5 et street, which will fit with minimal clearancing.

Now 325-50-15's are a different story, they are a lot wider, and will require a lot of clearancing. A wee bit more than 28x10.5 et drags will need.
