Default Need help installing Manley springs

This is the spring set i got with my F13 cam:

FMS Cam Kit - Manley Dual Spring Kit - $740.00
FMS Hydraulic Camshaft
FMS Hardened Pushrods
Manley Dual Valve Springs (rated to .650 lift)
Manley Titanium Retainers
Manley Locators
Valve Stem Seals

I didnt get any locks with my kit, i was wondering if im supposed to reuse the stock locks, or if the kit was supposed to come with them.

Also where does the shim go? Does it go on first then the seat? First time doing this obviously any help would be much appreicated.

Thanks guys, Justin

I don't know what type of locks you have stock, so I wont comment on the
valve locks.

If you have the cash, I'd buy new locks. They are about $20.00 for a set.

The shim sits on the head (between the head and the spring).

No shim

You can reuse the stock retainers. Adrenaline_Z is correct, the shim goes between the head and the valve seat.

Yes, you can reuse the stock locks. (aka retainers or keepers)

You are better off getting some Manley machined locks, they are for heavy duty applications, although the stamped OEM's rarely fail. You need to get a valve spring height micrometer so that you can shim the springs for the correct install height on the springs. Depending on the install height the spring pressure will vary. Also for larger cams install height comes into play with coil bind, NOT good.
