Default Shift light in HPT?

I have looked all over trying to find out what output the shift light function uses in HP turners. Has any one used this function? I see how to set up the software but what output does it use. If some one has used it what will it drive? What does your set up look like?

Thanks for the help.

It is for vehicle equipped with a shift light, like some Holden vbehicles. F-bodies do not have that function, they use that PCM location for something else. Chris (of HPTuners) would be better able to answer your question in depth.

Is there anyway you could get the skip **** light to light up at a certain rpm without engaging the skip shift? I already have a raptor shift light but i think it would be kinda cool to have a dash light or two light up at a certain rpm also.

That would be real cool- have one as your staging light and one for a shift light. I have a shift light and a 2 step but it would be cool to have the shiftlight in the car light up for my staging rpm so I'm not using the 2 step. A lot of bracket racing dosnt let you use electronics such as 2 steps

I haven't tried it ... but if you have an A4 it says in the help file not to enable it FYI

So can you set up the CAGS light to be a shift light without inducing CAGS?

Yep done it. Raptor as shift light and cags light as launch rpm, works like a charm. You have to disable cags first. All you need is a 1/2 watt-2.2 ohm resistor (Radio Shack). Unplug cags connector at tranny and bend the ends of resistor so you can plug resistor in, then tape, done, cags is out of picture, or do it in HPT (I don't know this way). Now go into HPT and set shift light to what you want, bingo, launch light. I have four extra resistors if anyone wants them. I have a link for f-body cags install/defeat if needed.

Edit: maybe I am thinking of the dash shift light on the Z06, set it anyway for launch light. Is it the same light? Can't remember, I am so confused.

Where in HPT do you set this up? In engine > general > Shift light > RPM vs. gear? Do I select yes for master enable under shift light?

After doing so, will this operate the skip shift light as a shift light?

Yep that's how I did it basically. except I did, Master enable, then High rpm, then checked rpm vs gear. Works like a charm. Once you get used to it you can see it out of corner of eye, and don't have to take eyes off track/road.

What did you put under high rpm? Obviously you put your shift points in RPM vs. Gear right? Sorry for all the questions. I am new to tuning and want to do it right. I also want this to work so I can save $85 and not have to get a light.

Now remember I am using two lights, the Raptor for shift points 6500/6600rpm, then I am using the dash light for launch rpm (3500). You can set your high limit to what you want for shifting, then in shift light rpm vs gear you can taylor rpm for each gear, if needed, for say launch rpm in first. However, in HPT help is a "do NOT enable shift light on A4 cars", why I don't know. There is a place to do shift rpm's while cold also, saves engine.

I believe it's because the output that's triggered on an A4 PCM tells one of the shift solenoids to engage ... don't have the issue on an M6

I am an M6 so there should be no problems here. So I can set up the CAGS light at a launch RPM, then a shift RPM for each gear to 4th? Or are you saying one over rides the other. So using just the CAGS light, how would I set it up if I wanted to:
launch at 3500
Light up at 5800 in 1st
light up at 5900 in 2nd
light up at 6000 in 3rd
light up at 6000 in 4th

Again, sorry to be so specific, just want it done correctly. You guys have been very helpful.

One or the other, you can set 1st as launch rpm, but then you don't have 1st shift rpm. It will light at 3500 only in first when at launch rpm. That's why I am using two lights, stock for launch (prob set 2 3 4 at raptor shift rpm), and raptor for speed shifting and to see it better at speed. Set any gear to what you want rpm wise.
