Default converting A4 to M6, do I need computer harness?

I found someone I am swapping trannies with and read all through the writeup for A4 to M6, but should we also swap wiring harnesses, or can we make current wiring harnesses work? Anyone have a writeup on how to pull wiring harness? Also, if we swap wiring harnesses, do we have to swap ECM's? Thanks.

I am helping a friend convert his car to an M6 at the moment. From what he has shown and told me it seems as if all you need are the connections to the M6 trans (i.e. CAGs, reverse lockout, speedo wire etc) and then you splice it in somehow into the original harness. The place he bought the harness from literally just got all the connections and cut the lines a decent length.

You don't need to swap ECM's but he has a cam and is going to get a tune off of another buds car (M6) that is cammed to setup a base tune to get him running. At least until he can get one for his car straightened out.

to do it right and have no check engine light code you would have to swap ecu`s also. your ecu in your car right now controls every thing your trans does.

Actually , all he would need to do is get someone with LS1 edit or hp tuners and take out the old stock program and flash in a new 6-speed program. No need to swap computers unless yuo really want to.

I have hp tuners, so I was thinking of doing the rewiring as in the write-up to just rewire the stuff, without swapping wiring harness. Should that be ok?

We need to swap wireing harnesses not the ECU, Im pretty sure we can leave our ECU's alone and get them reflashed after the trans is installed.

Is the computer harness a direct swap? Is it going to be a total PITA to put a manual wiring harness into my A4 and vice versa? Any help/info?

I just had this done on my 93 T/A and you don't need a new computer or harness. You will have to have your computer reprogrammed, so the speedo and idle work right. Speedo will be about 1/2 of your actual speed and the idle will be a little high. You will need the pigtails for an M6 so you can splice into the auto harness. Good luck!!

Swapping out the harnesses would be a pain in the ***.
I have done the swap before (A4 to M6). It will be easy on your end. You just have to re route some of the wires that are going to the shifter now.
And extend the speed sensor harness.

For the guy who is switching over to A4, he will need to get part of your harness, or one from the boneyard, for the transmission controls. There is a large plug that has eleventybillion wires goin into it in the auto that will be left hangin when the stick goes in.

Ther is a writeup in the stickeys.

Brad
