Default 236/242 .602/.610 XR-E 112 LSA (Piston/Valve clearance on stock heads)?

I was told it would work and was told it would be to tight!?!? What do i need to change to make it work? In my opinion it is almost the same size as a Magic stick cam but im going with a local shop on this custom grind comp. cam with dual patriot gold springs. It is a XR-E grind cam as well which has a fast ramp rate.

It would be tight on the intake side. Clay it.

Scott, the major factor in it fitting will be the advance. If it has 0 advance ground in i.e. 112+0 then it will be tight, but will prolly scrape buy. If it has any advance at all, I wouldn't try it. If you want to make it safer, cut it on a 114. It'll tune/drive better in a A4 anyway. The exaust side won't be a problem. And it's XE-R, not XR-E. You also have to remember that just because John Doe has X amount of duration in his car, dosen't mean it'll be that same in another. Diffrent grinds do diffrent things.

We'll we changed the cam specs up some today and went with a 238/242 .605/.610 113 LSA 4* advance. We went with the 113 LSA to help on clearance and steped it up just a tad.

Im thinking that advancing it will give you more clearance. The way I see it the exhaust valve will come the closest because its opening while the piston is moving up.

So you had a cam that was barley gunna fit, made it bigger and think it's actually going to fit? FWIW, the G5X-3 is a 234 XE-R intake lobe on a 114 with +4 advance and it is on the limits of clearence. I highly doubt your gunna come anywhere close to fitting that cam without contact.

I called thunder about it and they told me that one of their locals ran it in his A4 for a few weeks and had major problems driving it and told me that it's more or less setup for M6 cars than A4s with the 110 LSA.

I ended up with TSP helping me set the cam up and got it all worked out It should be fun to watch late this fall with the new exhaust, cam, tune and gears.

The guys at TSP are great to deal with. They had my cam ground to what I wanted also.
