Default Why is my trans pan still leaking??

Well my pan was leaking not too long ago and I realized that the trans was shipped to me without a gasket . So I bought a gasket and put it on, torqued all the bolts down not too tight and it worked fine for a few start ups/weeks. Then all of a sudden now its leaking again. I thought it was because i ran the car without a driveshaft and it leaked out of there onto the pan, but i cleaned it all up and and noticed that it is still leaking at a medium pace from the edges of the pan (enough to drive you crazy). Any one know why it might still be leaking ...torqued down the bolts to tight? I wish something would just go right for once... Thanks for the help.

Did you use a paper or rubber gasket? Did you torque the bolts down to 10lbs? And did you get another pan or still using the same pan.

Use a cork gasket and torque the bolts to 10 - 11 lbs. But if you have already overtightened them, make sure the pan is still flat around the bolt holes when you take it off. If the area around the bolt holes is bent/deformed you need to fix this first. And make sure it isn't actually leaking from the dipstick or the cooler lines instead of the pan.

Install the gasket dry.
10LBS inch or foot?

Torque it to 12 foot pounds or 144 inch pounds.
Go around it a couple of times until they're all tight.
If it still leaks it's coming from somewhere else...maybe.

10 inch lbs = less than .833 (or less than 1) foot pound. Should be obvious.

I'd go to a GM dealership and get a neoprene gasket. Cost me about 12 bucks and seals everytime. I hate the cork gaskets, I could never get them to seal. I also used RTV on the gasket and it worked great.

Should be but you never know. .833 would definatly cause a leak.

Ya, buy a GM gasket, if you keep trying to work on aftermark products, it's not worth it when they fail and just knock the price up buying them over and over anyways.

Sorry it took so long to respond. No it is a rubber gasket. I went under there and tightened all the bolts a little bit and it seemed to stop the leak. My torque wrench is not very accurate below 30 ft lbs. Thanks for the imput guys.

You need to get rid of that rubber gasket, i had the same problem, I changed the entire pan, i wanted one with a drain plug. I used the cork/paper gasket, torqued down, and no leaks, been three weeks now. That rubber gasket is the problem, they suck.

damn where would I go about getting cork gasket? I went to murry's and thats what they had, not sure if it is rubber or what. I dont want to go through a dealership and pay $1.7 million for a gasket. I really wasnt planning on taking that pan off again...O well.

Well...its not the gasket I found out today, but rather the 24 pin main trans connection that is leaking. I need to drop the pan to fix it Im pretty sure. Im sick of this sort of crap happening.
