Default Fan settings in LS1 Edit

I know that there are settings for the fans in LS1 Edit, but I'm curious if there is another setting for when the fans completely shut off at highway speeds?

I recall with the LT1, even if you set the fans to run all the time, the factory programming would still shut them down around 50mph. Is this the same with the LS1? And if so, is there a way to change that setting in LS1 Edit?

The reason I ask is because when my car was dyno tuned, the fan settings were put pretty low, and they basically run at all times now. But I am pretty sure they will still shut off completely once the car reaches highway speeds.

I'm happy with having the fans run like this when stopped, since it keeps my engine at 192-194F coolant temps, even with the stock thermo. And this in turn keeps my oil temps nice too, so that even if I'm in bad traffic for a long time, the oil still does not go much above 200F.

But I just want to know for sure that the fans do shut off at highway speeds. And I'd like it if I could make sure they shut off at about 30mph, if possible.

I'm not aware of any settings... I believe there's a setting to disable the low speed fans at higher temps... and there's a setting to let the fans stay on for a period of seconds after the car's turned off....

But I haven't seen any options for fan disable at highway speeds

On the LS1 and LT1 the fans only shut off at highway speeds if the a/c was commanding them to be on. When the ECT commands the fans they run regardless of speed.

Viewing my bin file my fans for the a/c are set to shut off at 36mph, but this does not effect the operation if the ECT is above your set temp. My low fan is set at 178 so for the most part its always on city or highway. I've noticed it really helps with consitant coolant temps and lowered trans temps

Yikes! And here all along I thought they were shutting down on the highway! I'm getting my dyno tuning redone soon and will have to get him to change the settings a little bit then, so that they will shut off on the highway. Maybe I'll get it set so they come on at 198F and shut off at 193, since it runs a steady 192 on the highway.

Where's this setting located for letting them run after shutoff of the car?

system --> general
Ignition Off Fan
Disable Temp: Temperature at which the fans will switch off after ignition off
Run Time: Maximum Fan run time after ignition off if Disable Temp exceeded

Pat, Just wondering why you want them to shut off at highway speeds?

Don't know if this helps but here's a screenshot of the fan parameters in Flashscan which has the speed shutdown values, perhaps Edit calls them different names? but maybe check for similar looking values.

I just don't like the idea of both of them running all the time, I figure they will burn out sooner. But I like how both of them run when I'm idling in traffic, since it keeps the coolant and oil temps perfect. Plus it's perfect when I'm in the staging lanes at the dragstrip too, since the coolant temp is never too hot. I know these engines do not make as much power when the coolant temp gets above 200F.

Thanks man, much appreciated!

Patman, I know the feeling about 200*+. My car hates hot lapping

Patman, I think they should hold up. My fans have been runing on low pretty much since i've had the car and they are ok.

I know the temps are cooler in canada so it might not be an issue, but down here when it gets above 80* my ECT will slowly creep up and up w/o the fans on while on the highway. When its over 90* it even creeps up with the low fans on, it'll cycle the high fans which i have set at 195* in hot and heavy traffic.

I set my temp to 178* b/c in cold weather it runs at 174, I figure in 40* weather there's no reason to run the fans unless the motor needs it.

Checkmate and Patman:

See the attached pic of my LS1 Edit table. It shows the ability to turn the fans off (one or both) at certain speeds, however; it doesn't show the ability to keep my fan(s) on after shutting the car off.

I'm using v1.5...

I've experminted with that in the past, and it only works for the AC. ECT commanding is unaffected by it.

Also, you need HPT v1.6 to do the post fan delay. I only recently added that to mine. I have them run 5mins if the coolant is above 190 i believe.

I don't really see the point of running the fans after the engine is shut down though. All this will acheive is to cool down what is in the rad, which is only a very small percentage of the total coolant capacity. I guess this could be good to keep things a tiny bit cooler in between runs at the dragstrip, however once you fire up the engine the hot coolant from everywhere else will mix in with the cooler stuff from the rad, so I don't believe you will really see that much difference. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

It probably is a waste, I just do it to keep some air moving under the hood after driving on 90* days.

Thinking about it, my midget race battery may not like the fan running at high speed when the car is off.

But from the looks if it, I can't change that in LS1 Edit anyways.

The post delay is only on the low speed. but yeah, those batteris don't like dome lights being left on for 10 mins
