jimmyblue's trans settings too harsh for stock converter?
I put jimmyblue's trans settings into my 99A4 with stock converter, and the shifts are definitely faster, but they are also obnoxiously harsh, abrupt and generally upsetting the balance of the car. the weird part is that it's most visible at lower rpm/throttle input. 1-2 shift just pulling out at the redlight is so harsh it feels like the car is trying to jump out from underneath my ***. the strange part is that once you get on it bit more, it's still quick and harsher, but nowhere near as upsetting.
I went back and did some reading and looks like jimmy has a aftermarket converter, so that's probably why the settings need to be harsher. Does anyone have a set of settings that do behave like jimmy's but tamer/more suited for the stock converter?
since there's so many tables involved, i can start swapping stock ones back in one by one, but that's gonna take me half a day. any ideas on which tables to change, or at least which parts of the table to play with?
thanks,
Marcin

For starters look at the force motor table, check that
it matches a stock tune. I don't -think- I've let any of
my jacked-up pressure tunes out into the wild but you
never know. Then check the adaptation time table and
the base shift pressure tables, increase the time and
decrease the pressure at lower torques.
A converter will soften up the shift feel but also increase
the flash torque put through the clutches. So I went
more aggresive than a stock converter would need.

ok, so what i did today was to create averages between jimmy's and my stock table, and tried that. better, but still jumpy.
so then i took that and averaged it with stock table again creating a 'quarter jimmy' settings that drives fine, you can still feel a little jerk on 1-2 but it's completely managable.
i got logs for everything, if anyone wants to take a look at how it shifts (i finally saw some 0.3sec shifts, normally it barely ever got anything better than 0.5).
i just hope that's not a sign of my trans going bad :/

Red,
I'd like to take a look at it. Using Jimmy's settings with my stock tc netted very harsh shifts like that you mentioned. I've been trying to find something I like. A decent combo between Force motor vs. Base Shift vs. Shift duration
Which overall, has the largest effect on the aggressive shift that you and I are noticing?

force motor table is by far the most 'feelable' i don't quite understand it though (well, i don't know how auto trans works in general) so for now i've been just playing around.
anyone cares to explain the force motor tables in more detail? why are there 'positive' and 'negative' ones?

Aftermarket stalls will eat of a lot of the harshness of quick shifts.
Usually thats why we bump the pressure up a bit to get the feel back.
I bumped my shift pressure up 5 to 10% in some places to give some feel back to the shifts. It also improved when I switched to the GTO maf table.

I massaged Jimmy's settings w/o touching the pressure tables and it might be what you're looking for. I have great part throttle response just by adjusting that table and shift times. Email me if you would like screen shots or Excel. I can't remember if you have the stock TC or not--mine is stock for a Z51 Vette. At the last track day (Nashville Superspeedway's road course) an instructor mentioned that it shifted/downshifted unlike any A4 he'd been in. It worked great, no upseting 3-2 downshift that can break the rearend free when you last want it
